I’ve been a member and have used TripAdvisor for several years as one of my sources for travel within the U.S. and abroad. I've had much success, and it’s high time that I add my first traveler review to the site! So, here goes!
Dates of travel – 7/7 & 7/8
Reason for travel – Family trip to Hershey Park (first time) and VF Outlets in Reading, PA.
The hotel is located conveniently near Hershey Park. After a wonderful and exhausting day at Hershey Park, we drove a quick 5 minutes to SpringHill Suites. The hotel looks pretty new. The grounds were nice and there was plenty of parking.
Check-In – No waiting! The check-in process took all of 5 minutes. The front desk reception staff were efficient.
Room – We got two rooms (216 and 217) which were directly across the hall from each other. The rooms are not actually suites. They are cleverly designed “mock suites”. There is no real separation of the living and sleeping areas. There is a wall that extends halfway between the two rooms to partially separate them. There is one TV on a swivel stand that can be turned to face the living or sleeping area. The room décor is new. The colors are nice. There is a small refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. There is a below-window air conditioning unit which cooled very well; however, it’s loud. I’m a heavy sleeper so the noise did not bother me. If you are a light sleeper, this may be a concern. Also, since the air conditioner is directly under the window, at the same height as the mattress, the room darkening curtains stop short and allow light to enter the gap between the bottom of curtain and top of the AC unit. If you like to sleep in and are light-sensitive, it may not be possible. That sunlight really brightened up the sleeping area.
Cleanliness/Comfort – Overall my room (216) was clean; however, I did see a few hairs. I checked the bedding and it appeared clean (I have stayed in hotels where it was apparent that the sheets were not changed and I had to call housekeeping). Also, I found the bed to be comfortable. The sheets were soft as well.
Noise – We checked in after 9:00 p.m. and it was quiet. I can’t comment on whether one can hear noise from the adjoining rooms. We did check in late and maybe we did not have anyone next door to us. I will say that I could hear the guests walking around in the room above ours. The noise was minimal and did not bother me. By the time I settled in to bed, I fell right to sleep and did not wake up until the next morning.
Complimentary breakfast – My sister and nephew went down and brought up the food. It was the “standard” stuff that you receive at most complimentary breakfast buffets. I am a finicky eater and thought that the selection was very tasty. And, everything I ate was fresh (bagel, yogurt, juice, etc).
Other comments – The water pressure was great! However, the water drained out very slowly from the bath tub. By the time I finished showering (10 minute shower), the water level was up past my ankles. My sister (room 217) said she encountered the same issue. Also, the bathroom sink is located directly outside of the bathroom. The security lock (the one that you turn once you’re inside the room) did not fully engage because the metal plate in the door jamb is not properly aligned. I guess no one ever reported it or the hotel hasn’t gotten around to fixing it. I did not use the gym, pool or the washer/dryer. The pool is small, but if you’re going to Hershey take advantage of the water park. It’s nice. While I didn’t bring my camera along to take pictures of the room and post to the site, the rooms do appear as shown on the Springhill Suites website.
One more thing - We ate dinner at Red Robin Restaurant (which is like Ruby Tuesdays, Apple Bees, Friday's, etc.). It's located just outside of Hershey Park behind Wendy's. The service was great! The food was plentiful and delicious. There were 5 in our party (4 adults/1 teenager). We had appetizers, drinks and entrees for about $112.00.
All-in-all, our trip to Hershey and Reading was great! And our overnight stay at Springhill Suites was uneventful. It was a nice and clean place to lay our heads. If you have any questions, send me a response.
Would I stay here again on a future trip to Hershey? Yes.
As I stated in my opening, I’ve used TripAdvisor for a few years and I just wanted to say that this site is valuable for all levels of travel (budget to luxury), and I have never been led wrong by my fellow traveler opinions and pictures. I’ve had some wonderful trips and experiences because of this traveler resource. Thanks.
Happy Traveling!
