“Very clean park - and review of food prices”
Reviewed August 17, 2009

We enjoyed our trip to Hershey Park and will definitely go again, but its a good idea to know the food prices ahead of time. This is what we paid on a recent trip: $4 pizza slice, $3 for just about all the drinks from the push carts or the vending machines (Tip- we ended up refilling our empty bottles at the drinking fountain by the changing rooms at the water park). $9 taco (comes with a drink), $8 deli sandwich, $4-$5 for french fries, $4.50 plain hotdog, $7 hamburger, $9 salads, $12 at Nathan's for a combo meal with fries & drink, $3-4 ice cream cones. We spent an average of $30 per person for food during our visit- typical prices for a large amusement park.

Also, the park is super clean- we went on a very crowded day in peak season and the park was totally clean. I don't know how they keep up, but the bathrooms were very clean, floors were dry, plenty of toilet paper, and no long waits in line, I saw workers constantly emptying garbage cans, there was no litter or trash anywhere. The tree and grassy areas were nicely kept and you could feel comfortable sitting in the grass or on the sidewalks.

“Nice, But A Few Serious Problems. Won't Go Back.”
Reviewed August 17, 2009

Objectively Hershey Park was nice, we went on a Wednesday in August 2009. Although it was surprisingly crowded and we had to wait in 45-minute lines to do ANY ride, there were plenty of different rides to suit the preferences of our small extended family. There were many age-appropriate rides for our apprehensive 5-year old as well as our roller-coaster loving 7-year old.

That being said, Hershey Park has two major problems and we will never go back: PROBLEM 1) The height-grading system is inconsistent and confusing. My 7-year old was at some times a "Reese's Cup" and other times a borderline "Hershey's Kiss". THREE TIMES she waited in line for nearly an hour when the sign out front stated that she was clearly height appropriate for the ride, so she'd enter the line and spend all that time waiting only to be turned away when she got to the front of the line. One time another little girl was getting off the roller coaster and was clearly a couple inches shorter and the mean-spirited employee still wouldn't let my 7-year old on the ride, even with strangers around claiming how unfair it was. It's not like we were trying to get her into rides she shouldn't have been on, she clearly met the requirements according to the posting at the entrance gate. Only after the third time this happened, (by this point the day is wasting away on lines and not riding) did an employee offer that we should go to guest services and have her officially measured. We did this and just thereafter it starting raining, and all the roller coasters shut down for the rest of the day. It's understandable that she's doesn't qualify for a ride; what's not understandable is how mean and nasty the employees get about it, particularly when she's at worst borderline and the signs out front say she's ok. PROBLEM 2) The entry gate in the morning is absolute unmitigated chaos. We purchased our tickets online in advance, and there is only a little gate to the right that indicates that advance ticket buyers can skip the long lines and enter. We had waited for 30 minutes before we spotted this gate; it took us another 10 minutes to get to the other side of the gates with people pushing and shoving. Absolutely unacceptable chaos.

In sum, there are a wide variety of rides at Hershey Park to suit all ages and tolerances. It's overall a nice park. Nonetheless, our family and friends will NEVER go back because of the inconsistent signage and how the --at best, indifferent, at worst, mean -- employees treated my 7-year old. She had a really bad day and simply felt let down and picked on. We never would have waited in those lines if we thought she had any chance of not getting on the ride (also if it was unsafe because she was too small). The inconsistency with signage was their fault, not ours. If a 7-year old has a bad day there because of the staff, you know something is wrong. There's an amusement park further south that we love. We've never had these kinds of problems there, so we'll never go back to Hershey. Sad.

“hands down, cleanest park in america”
Reviewed August 17, 2009

i have been to many, many theme parks. they are usually gross, this place is an exception. clean everywhere, in all the cracks and crevices, under things. really clean. inexpensive too. like a dollar for a carnival game where most theme parks would charge 5. really good food, wholesome food, not just burgers. overall a very good value. short lines, (must be the economy), great roller coasters. whoever is running this place knows what they're doing

“Hershey park”
Reviewed August 15, 2009

We spent most of our time waiting in line four and a half hours. First for the wave pool by the time we got in, they said some one had not been able to make it to the bathroom and they had to clean the pool. Usually for something like that they would have to close the pool for longer than an hour , but I guess they have magic powers at Hershey. We decided to go to the lazy river which was another hour and half wait by the time we made it guess what they said some one did not make it to the bathroom and they had to clean. Which they said would take about an hour again, not happy and hot at this point we decided to go to the kids pool area, well we had to wait in line again. I have never been to a water park which you had to wait in line for wave pool, lazy river, or kids pool area. We will never go back.

“Nicer than Six Flags, Loses to Busch Gardens Williamsburg”
Reviewed August 12, 2009

My husband, 9 year old daughter and myself spent our first day ever at Hershey Park, today - an August Wednesday. While I found it to be cleaner than Six Flags G.A w/ staff was friendlier than Six Flags G.A., it was very very crowded. No comparison at all to Busch Gardens, which is even cleaner with an equally exciting number and variety of roller coasters. A few comments:

- The Chocolate World tour was not worth attending. It was terribly crowded with screaming bands of childen packed into narrow hallways. I was very uncomfortable because I could not find a single emergency exit in the entire tour and found myself considering the possibility of a crowd stampede in the event of fire or emergency.

-Inside Hershey Park, the cost of food was astronomical. When I entered the ticket-purchasing area, a security card frisked me and hounded me about opening my purse. They are true Nazis about making sure no one brings any unauthorized beverages or food into the park. With vending machine drinks starting at $3.75, beverages are an expensive proposition.

-Lines for the coasters were very long, with average waits betwenn 20 and 40 minutes mid-day, mid-week.

-I was very disappointed there was no "Flash Pass" Six Flags style offering for line-passing. There is something called the "Sweet Escape", but it's only a 5 hour-offering and the family must be accompanied by a Hershey Park "concierge", which takes half the fun out of it. And at $185 a pop per head, it's far more expensive that the Six Flags "Flash Pass" which is only $80 and has no time restrictions or babysitter.

That said, it was a more pleasant atmosphere than Six Flags.
