My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend in the Poconos and had the good fortune of staying at The Settlers Inn in Hawley, PA. It is a charming property, built originally in the 1920, and has authentic arts and crafts style furnishings, including the dining room chairs from the Bryn Athyn Cathedral in Philadelphia. Dinner on the patio overlooking the garden was lovely, the room was comfortable, and the food (breakfast and dinner) expertly prepared and served.

What a wonderful place. Very charming and very comfortable. They had our room ready for us even though we arrived 2 hours before the stated check in time. Though small, room 216 was comfy and well appointed (although I do wish there were some hooks in the bathroom to hang robes and towels). We were there for a wedding and everything was handled with professionalism and a smile. The food was wonderful, both at the wedding reception and breakfast the next morning. If we ever are in Hawley again, The Settlers Inn would surely be our go-to place to stay! Be wary though of the noise, it is an old building and you can hear what's going on around the place. We were over the dining room and the piano music was audible for us. It did stop at 10pm though, so no big issue.

Room Tip: Ask about a room that is not over the dining room or lobby/bar area if you want a little more quiet.

My husband and I just returned from a two-night stay at the Settlers. There are many lovely things about the Inn: the decor, the overall ambiance, the gardens, and the attention to aesthetic detail. We had previously stayed at the Ledges, a sister property, and had a very good experience there, so were expecting a similar visit, which unfortunately didn't happen.

The good: the beds have quality sheets, pillows, and thick feather toppers; the bathrooms have hot showers and a nice array of high quality toiletries & towels; and the decor is in line with the arts & crafts theme--all at a high level of detail.

The not so good: we were in a cozy room on the second floor and had virtually NO quiet time between 7am-10pm. From the housekeeping staff gossiping/chatting while cleaning the rooms in the morning (actually until 2pm), to the chatter & sounds traveling up the stairway from the front desk staff and lobby; to the voices from the rooms beside us and upstairs--the TERRIBLE soundproofing between floors and rooms was simply appalling. (Note to the front desk staff and management--the guests have no choice but to know what's going on "behind the scenes." Be more discrete! Know that when guests aren't in eyesight, we might be in earshot.)

We wouldn't stay at the Settlers for two nights of "R&R" again. What a shame, such a beautiful property with attention to aesthetic detail, but not to the overall guest experience.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at The Settlers. Through the front door is a really cozy reception area with a huge fireplace, rustic bar and comfortable seating area. Every single person we encountered (front desk, house keeping, restaurant servers) was happy, friendly and accommodating.

We stayed in room 101, which is a Deluxe King on the first floor. The room was nice, bed was comfortable and it had a little balcony off of it. Also, a nice sitting area with a couch, chairs and table in front of the fireplace. The only down side was that it was close to the bar area so we did hear noise at night. Not horrible, just be aware.

The Inn provides water and coffee/tea (and sometimes snacks) on the second floor as well. It was really nice to get back after a day out and have a hot cup of coffee or tea. They also give you a carafe in the room so bring it with you to fill up with water. Ice is provided by either the bar tender or front desk. They were always happy to fill up the bucket.

Our package included breakfast and we were thrilled with the selection, quality of food and service. Check out the menu on their website before you go because it changes every month. Delicious.

We loved our stay at The Settlers and will be back for sure.

Another couple joined my husband and me for a two-day package adventure to The Settlers Inn in Hawley, PA. Turned out that we both had lovely second floor rooms that were tastefully decorated in the Arts and Crafts style, keeping with the design of the entire Inn. Beds were comfy with fluffy feather quilts and towels were lush and soft. We ate in the Inn dining room the first night and were all a bit disappointed with the food, although the service was superb. Breakfast was great and kept us going all day. The men went fishing off Welcome Lake Road while the women visited the Silk Mill, the cocoon coffee shop(aptly named as it once held the cocoons of the silk worms. We then stopped off at Ledges to is it the newly open lodge that sits below the beautiful falls of the silk mill and glass factory of yesteryear.

My husband and I spent the weekend at the Settler's Inn. Our room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included in our package which was good as the food there is a bit pricy. We only had dinner in the restaurant one evening. However, I will say this: everything that we ate was delicious! We have no complaints about the quality of the food or the service.

We enjoyed our time sitting around the large fireplace in the main lobby reading, talking with others and just being together. The only drawback for us was the room location, which was facing the main street. There isn't a ton of traffic per say, but one can definitely hear the traffic as it passes. The town is small so you can walk through it in less than an hour. Some people might consider this a drawback, however, we didn't mind since our goal was to relax and just spend some time together.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back of the Inn may not be effected by street traffic.

We spent a weekend at the Settler's Inn and were extremely disappointed with the room that we had. The Inn is nice but we would like to suggest that you check what room you are assigned. When I telephoned, they had mentioned a room with a sitting room with the only drawback being that it was on the third floor.
When we arrived, our room was extremely small. It had 1/4 of a closet, no sitting room, and it was hot. We asked if we could switch rooms but they could not accommodate us unless we paid $100 extra. The third floor is hot and we had to turn on the air conditioner, even though it was really cold outside. The windows cannot be opened so you are at the mercy of the air conditioning system. Because the room is so small the air system cannot be accurately controlled and it is either too cold or too hot.
The walls are thin (as someone else said) and we could hear the people in the room next to us and all the conversations in the hallway.
There are many amenities (spring water in every floor and coffee). The free breakfast was probably one of the most positive aspects. It was very good and it was a real breakfast with a good selection of special breakfast options.
The food was fine. Not amazing but it was good and there was a good selection of entrees.
There is not much to do in Hawley and the town is very small and has only a few shops. Perhaps it is better in the summer when the lake is open but as a winter getaway, it really is not worth it.
I know that our room was really overpriced and we got a special deal. It is just not worth the money and we did not feel they worked with us, given our unhappiness with the accommodations, to try to make our stay better. We will not be returning.
The staff is very pleasant and this is why I am not giving it a lower rating. I would suggest that you really check the room you are given and perhaps write down the room number. Apparently all the rooms are very different and there are some really wonderful rooms that might make your stay more enjoyable. Just make sure you have it in writing.
