“Where we got married, so maybe I'm biased!”
Reviewed August 26, 2008

We got married here in 1997 and have gone back a few times since. The main draw, for us, is the food, which is always delicious. It's an inn, so the rooms are all a little different and certainly the place isn't vast or spacious. But it is really comfy and homey and well-run. I love the summer, when all the gardens are blooming. And I highly recommend getting married here! We and our guests had a fantastic time and I'll always have warm memories of the Settlers.

We have been eating at The Settler's Inn for years now following visiting weekend at sleep away camp and always enjoyed our meals. This summer, we had the opportunity to stay for a night as well and we were AMAZED. Our room although very small was beautifully decorated and very special and the bed was very comfortable. The dinner was outstanding as always, but the breakfast that was included with our room price was really 5 star. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and work hard to make the inn and the restaurant stand apart from others. We peaked into many of the unoccupied rooms and most of them were terrific. We had such a nice overnight that we already booked the inn for next summer. Don't hesitate. If your plans take you to this part of the world, The Settler's Inn is well worth visiting.

  • Liked — The rooms were really nice and the restaurant was great.

I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a lovely place to stay and doesn't mind spending a bit to get it. The food was outstanding and the wine list was quite good. The rooms themselves were utterly charming, and I saw many I would have enjoyed staying in.

  • Liked — It's charming country atmosphere!
  • Disliked — The grounds were rather small.

My husband and I stayed at Settlers Inn for a short 2 night get away.
These are my impressions:
Lobby very dark and uninviting at first but we were greeted by such a friendly front desk person it was soon forgotten. We were taken directly to our room. Our room (204) however was not at all decorated as it looked in the website photo so maybe its best to ask what your room looks like before booking. Some people who may be picking the same room we chose based on appearance may be very surprised and disappointed when they see a Balinese style room with Bamboo printed wall paper and island style furniture as opposed to a Victorian style room with floral wall paper and a wrought iron bed. As it turns out, I liked the décor and appreciated that it was newly renovated, but not everybody would. By the way if you are a fan of HD TV and would like to watch the one provided in your room good luck, it worked one day while we were there. Their remedy was to move us to another room but TV isn’t why we were there. Still it was a little annoying to watch the 6’0clock news through static.

Food and drink
The bar is small and when I attempted to go out to the terrace to have my drink I was told that I had to sit at the tables out on the lawn. Apparently you can not sit at tables on the terrace while others are dining out there. A jazz quartet played there from about 6:30-9PM. We ate 2 breakfasts at the inn. The food was well prepared and attractively presented. But when my husband ordered oatmeal and another entrée we were told that only one entrée would be complimentary. Aren’t all breakfast items supposed to be complimentary at a B and B? In fact cereals, fruit and yogurt are often offered in addition to the hot entrees at most places.

Dinner was equally enjoyable. After dinner we played scrabble at a table lit by one of the many beautiful Tiffany lamps displayed throughout the Inn. Some quiet piano music played in the background.

Landscaping and gardens are very pretty here and the little gift shop on the premises is interesting. But the location of this Inn at a highly traveled intersection with its traffic noise reminds you that you are not on a country retreat at all.
Upon check out we found problems with our bill which were promptly corrected. The desk person was more than happy to print directions for our return home which I had earlier misplaced.

In summary
Good food, nice décor although public areas a little dark, good service, a few little annoyances, not so good location but you can’t change that. Hope this helps.

We have stayed here in the past and looked forward to a mid-week getaway. We booked through the site for a "last minute" special. We selected our room, and although we did get the number of the room we had requested, it was not the room pictured on the website! The website showed flowered wallpaper, mahogany bed and nightstands, antique dresser with mirror. The room we were given had dark wallpaper, iron bed, dark wooden blinds on the windows, no dresser, and no mirror in the room!!!!! We had to use the tiny mirror over the bathroom sink!!!! We loved the bedding and the fluffy comforter, etc., but found it awkward to dress w/o a mirror. Breakfast was delightful, with a really nice waiter, but our dinner the previous evening left much to be desired. We may stay there again, but perhaps have dinner at one of the restaurants in the near vicinity.

  • Liked — Bed was very comfortable, plenty of linens, etc.
  • Disliked — Dinner was disappointing. Room was not the one pictured on the website.

What a charming inn tucked away in HawleyPA. It was a gloomy Friday but that all changed when we entered the inn. We were graciously welcomed into the warm and inviting lobby. People played Scrabble in the lobby and lounged while listening to piano music from the dining room. All of the rooms are uniquely decorated - each delightful! The attention to detail throughout the inn is exceptional.
Breakfast was wonderful - our server was terrific. We are planning our return visit! The grounds are beautiful and the Pottery Shed gift shop is a treat! We are looking forward to our next visit and spending time in the gardens.

Hawley is a quaint town - friendly people and a nice walk from the inn. The Boathouse restaurant just a few miles away on Lake Wallenpaupack is great....terrific service, nice menu and lovely atmosphere.
