“NICE HOTEL BUT TERRIBLE FOOD”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

The Settlers Inn is really a nice place to stay but not to eat. The place is located on the corner of the main road, RT. #6, which runs in front and on the side of the property. We took a tour of almost all the rooms and they are very nice for a night or two, well maybe just one. Individual temp. controlled rooms, quiet and clean. The grounds are small but nice to walk around a little. There's a gift shop inside and in a house around the back. Nice comfortable lobby area and the staff is friendly. There are a couple of rooms where you can stay with a pet.

About the food: There's a bar area where light fare is served and it's reasonable priced and good. However, the dining room is not the same. Nice room, good service but the food, well that's a different story.

For instance, take a simple piece of steak or prime rib. For some reason the cook, and we wouldn't call him a chef, seems to think that everything needs something more. They cover almost everything with a mix of sauces and vegetables. Just try to find a steak under all that stuff! Once we ordered seafood: two shrimp, to scallops and some strange black stuff (four piles of it) that made us gag. Every time we ordered something the cook seems to think that simple is bad and they have to "doctor" it up with their "culinary wizardry." Well, with all their "doctoring" the patient is not going to make it. And of course there's a price to be paid for all these "extras."

And just in case you happen to attend some function around town, beware! Settlers Inn also caters out.

Here's the deal: neither Hawley nor Honesdale are renowned for their restaurants but there are some good ones. Unfortunately, Settlers Inn is not one of them unless you just want a hamburger at the bar!

Room Tip: Get a room around the back and don't make any meal reservations!

We had a great time at the Inn! From the beautiful building and the grounds, to the quaint rooms, delicious food and wonderful hospitality! We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again!

Room Tip: They have a nightly wine tasting for guests from 4:30 to 5:30

My daughter and son-in-law chose the Settlers Inn as the site for their wedding, from amongst many, many venues possible . . . and it was a great choice. The wedding co-ordinator was top notch, the owners were there to make everything work smoothly, the food was fantastic, and the staff were extremely helpful and uplifting. The Under-croft was the perfect place for the reception after the fairytale wedding in the back garden. And a full breakfast was included with the room! I am a great admirer of Arts and Craft style, and the decor was superb; it even had the feel of being at the Broadmoor. Thanks for a fantastic weekend and wedding ! ! !

Room Tip: The rooms in the back allow you to view the exquisite gardens.

Wonderful inn and great food. As we approached the front desk it seemed that the staff was a little confused. I had booked an all-inclusive deal and the conformation did not reflect that. They had to redo this prior to receiving our room. Once clarified and formatted correctly the man behind the desk led the way to our assigned room. Unfortunately he did not know where it was and confessed that he was not familiar with the hotel layout. After a short wild goose chase we arrived. The room was not very big but acceptable for the price. There were several complaints about the room; As we had read in previous reviews the shower water temperature fluctuates rapidly. I was scalded on my back and could not escape the burning water as the showers are not very large. The air conditioning unit was the other problem. It cooled the room well enough but was directly over the bed and aimed at you while you were sleeping. I ended up having to wrap a shirt around my head. The food was very good. Unfortunately it took way too long between courses. It ended up taking us over two hours to complete our meal. Once rectified these small issues will not get in the way of everything else the inn has to offer. In closing the blacktop from the front lot to the back has a substantial pothole in it. Take heed if you have a low car or motorcycle. This needs immediate attention.

My husband and I spend Memorial day weekend at Settlers Inn and we had an amazing time. The food was delicious and our room was comfortable and cozy. Our bed was super comfortable which it felt like we were sleeping on clouds. The town is very small and there is not much to do, but if you are looking for a quiet place you should defiantly stay at Settlers Inn. I would recommend Settlers Inn to anybody that wants to experience organic and seasonal food and a quiet place to enjoy peace and the person that they go with.

This is one of the most beautiful Bed & Breakfast Inn's we have ever stayed at. A must for anyone going to the Pocono Mts. The Inn is small and the staff is just great. There has never been a time when our stay was less than excellent

Room Tip: Room 101 has access to the outside

One of the best getaways we have had- low key but pampered just the way we like it. Lovely and spacious rooms, very responsive staff, and superb food at all meals. It felt like a real bargain for all that we got. Just wish it were a little closer to activities but that itself may be the secret to its charm.

A perfect wedding anniversary.
