“$500 a night for a couple with one kid - you have be joking!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2011

They are charging prices that compare to cruising, or high end resorts in the Caribbean, but delivering far less for the money. It perhaps would be a nice place for a large group of friends or family with lots of children. There is no way you would come here without kids. There are simply far too many better options for the price to justify ever coming back here again.

15% "service" on EVERYTHING which they forget to mention when booking. We paid $500 a night to stay in a place that hasn't been updated since the 70s. The food is best described as diner food - oh wait, actually at a diner you get more choices - so not exactly.

We got charged $20 a night for a crib (at a family resort) plus $2.50 for a trinket at dinner. The alcohol prices here are just as high as the W in New York City but just not as good.

This place is a joke - stay at your own risk - I guess there are suckers born every day. I just can't believe this place get such good reviews from people - go see the world! It might be the best place to hang out in PA - I will never spend a dime here again.

Let me repeat this - $500 a night for a standard room with diner like meals - Go for it! it's all yours!

We visited Woodloch for the 2nd time during our daughter's spring break. Everything was great just like our first trip last year. All meals and all courses of the meals were excellent. The beef tenderloin was the best I ever had. I don't think that I will need to eat for a week after coming home. Our server during meals was Alex and he was great. Our drinks were never empty and we never left wanting for anything. The activities were all fun and the real challenge was negotiating with family on what we would do next. A family can be as active they want or just choose to relax. You get an activity sheet at breakfast just like a cruise. The pools are great and the gym has everything you need, treadmills, elipticals, weight machines and plently of dumbells. The nightly shows were also great. Many large groups here but they are good with pairing you with other smaller families for activities which require a larger group. Most people stay the same amount of days so the familes that we were paired with early remained friendly with us the entire stay. At every turn either staff talks to you or other familes. All staff is beyond friendly. The only draw back is having to leave.

Just returned from 2 nights at Woodloch, our first trip, and we really enjoyed. The food was surprisingly good (we took the family plan so all meals were included) and plentiful. The grounds are beautiful. All is kept very clean, and the pool and splash area for kids are great. Enjoyed paddle boats and go karting and paintball shooting for the little ones, pony rides as a special event and an amazing indoor jungle gym that really wow'd the little ones. The staff is all super helpful and friendly (albeit one grumpy bus driver, who yelled at us when we first arrived and didn't tell him we wanted to go to the main lodge - we said The Inn, not realizing lunch was at the lodge. My husband apologized and grumpy guy ignored the apology and then used his walkie talkie to loudly proclaim he would be 10 minutes later than expected because he had to go out of his way!!!) That almost set a bad tone for us as the weather also wasn't great, but it was all uphill from there and everyone else we encountered was happy to be helpful. We especially loved our waitress Drita - amazing service with a smile!!!! And, while it was very kid-focused, they also had a nice cocktail/wine list available as well, which we liked. We would definitely return.

Your stay at Woodloch Pines will not be the best stay you've ever had, but it will for certain be the most memorable. The ULTRA friendly staff and guests make this a great place to be - unlike no place on earth. I didn't think people could be THAT NICE! I actually was TIRED of saying hello and good morning to everyone. The food, while not gourmet, is abundant and they can accommodate to any of your preferences. Don't get me wrong, it's some really good food and, again, there is plenty of it. I stayed in the main lodge and was more than impressed with the room - lots of space and very clean with a nice little balcony/terrace to view the lake and have a nice cigar! This was very convenient as the main lodge where most of the activities and dining took place was just under our feet, but unlike the first time there, I did find myself walking less outdoors because of this - not their fault though.

All in all, it was a great time and new memories will always be made as I continue to go there. While the prices may be high, the quality and abundance of the amenities is stellar and you and your family will have a great time.

Note, I do not really think this is your scene if you are a younger 'hip' couple and/or don't like kids! Haha!

I've been taking my family to Woodloch for 20 years and each and every time we all look forward to the experience. The owners, staff and other guest make the stay AWESOME. It is a place that you will get the most out of if you participate in the activities. Fun and entertaining from tots to adults. By participating in the activities, you meet new people and see others from previous years. The best part is the FAMILY time = meals, activities, entertainment and other guest/families. Through the toddler years of awe, teen years of independence and young adult years of entertainment and excitement we still go together. I've given my kids the opportunity to go to other places, but they never wanted to do that in lieu of not going to Woodloch...so a few years I've had a double vacation. We've gone all seasons and have never been let down. I always look forward to it and do feel it is like a second home when I'm there. The Staff is clear on taking care of the guest and genuinely do that...we've gotten to know so many of them over the years and love catching up with them when we return. Embrace the experience...get involved and you will be overly satisfied. Hats off to Woodloch!

Thank you so much for your kind words and more importantly your family’s loyalty – we are grateful that we can keep the experience genuine yet fresh for your family. You touched on the two elements we strive to succeed at most, quality service and activity for all ages! We are always trying to challenge ourselves with group run activity and you said it best, you’re going to have a much better experience at Woodloch if you get involved in the activities. Thank you again for staying with us and we can’t wait to welcome you back again!

I am bit of a travel snob so when I heard we paid over $400+ per night for a resort in the poconos I almost had a heart attack. In the end, $400+ included room, all you can eat for every meal (no booze) and HOURS of entertainment for my 3 and 5 year old. If you go to an amusement park and book a room, pay for meals and tickets its close to the same. Not to mention, the activities for kids are just SUPERB at Woodloch......bumper cars, snow tubing, batting cages, indoor forest jungle gym, arts and crafts, basketball, huge indoor pool/water play area, movies, characters at EVERY meal and more. Also, this was during the winter so there are MANY more activities during the spring/summer.

For adults they had a sports bar, baby sitting, nice wine list at dinner, spa down the road, shows/comedy act (we didn't go) and more.

The room was clean and normal size. Just like you would see at a Hilton Garden Inn. We stayed in the main lodge which was walking distance to most of the activities. We had to take a shuttle bus to the pool which came frequently and was fine.

Here is the only downside....we were on the meal plan which include all your meals and its all you can eat. However, my wife is a very picky eater and did not eat much. My kids don't eat much either. So, I feel the meal plan went to waste and there is not many other choices at the resort. The food was okay, not great. For the amount we pay, I think they could have had a little more variety especially during dinner. I know its hard to please everyone but we paid quite a bit. Either way, we had fun as a family during the meals.

I never heard of Woodloch until this year and coming from a guy who likes fancy hotels and nice resorts.....this was a GREAT family trip and we will do it again! Its also a 2 hr drive from NYC.

Avidtraveler – Thank you for taking the time to share your Woodloch vacation experience with everyone! We appreciate your honesty and always take guest’s recommendations and advice very seriously. We are continuously making upgrades and improvements to our menu and cuisine; while we have done a lot on this matter we still have plenty of room for growth. We also have plans to create new dining options, so that if you decide to stay at Woodloch without a meal plan (or a minimized meal plan) there are more choices and convenience for you.

We are very glad to hear that your whole family had something fun to do and you were continuously entertained throughout your stay! We hope you’ll join us again, maybe next time you’ll get to see the show – or take a trip over to the Spa (way way worth it!).

Thank you very much,

Our family birthday celebration at Woodloch couldn't be any better. Our group consisted of 9 adults ranging from 30-86 and 5 children, ages 1-5 yrs old. Our weekend built memories in which no one in our group will ever forget. I think that is what Woodloch is all about.

Our accomodations at the Southwoods home was beyond our expectations. It was a clean, large, beautiful family home consisiting of seperate sleeping quarters for all. The kitchen was well equiped with everything we needed. The wi-fi, sceeened porch and gas fpl were a nice extra touch. The housekeeping service was exceptional!

The shuttle bus was always there within 10 minutes of our call. Thanks Papi and Mary for your patience and friendy smiles with our large group!

The waitress staff was unbelievable. Jennifer, our server most of the time, always had a smile to welcome us to our table. She never rushed us and was very attentive to all our needs. I would also like to mention our server in the main dining room on Saturday night's theme dinner. Although I can not remember her name, she was just wonderful too!!!

The activties at Woodloch are endless. My little grandkids had the time of thier lives. From snow tubing to the splash pool to bumper cars. I think their favorite activity was the very safe, but fun Woodlock Forest play area. Great addition to Woodloch. Our family's favorite game was Family Feud, gold medal winners!! The girls who ran the show were patient, kind and kept us all laughing.

The staff show on Saturday afternoon was enjoyed by our entire group. We didn't stop laughing throughout the show, even my little ones. Very entertaining and highly recommended. The 2011 Theme show was a joy to watch. We never wanted it to end.

Again, thanks to the Woodloch staff for your outstanding hopitality throughout our weekend. We will be back.

icbc - Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are very blessed to have such wonderful guests stay with us all the time, it's what makes it all worth it.

You hit on probably the most important point we strive to get across - there really is something to entertain everyone here, and it's all included. From all of Woodloch's unique activities, like you mention Family Feud (congrats by the way), as well as our Olympics, Scavenger Hunts, our nightly shows and games, and so much more to all of the amenities, designed to please all age groups. This summer we're going to be putting in a double zipline, which is going to be huge, right next to our rock wall - so we hope you come back in the fall to enjoy even more we have to offer!

Thank you again, hope to see you soon.
