“No rush”

Never feel rushed. You can get a cup of tea or coffee and just hang out. Look at the art work. Read. Compute......... It's all good!

“dirty pitchers with milk/cream for coffee/board of health stuff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

Forget it. Pastry awful.
Interior well designed, high ceilings, serving counter on left.
Coffee same quality as any gas/c-store.

“Cute coffee house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Their menu consists of sandwiches, quiches and soups of the day, they have a nice selection of baked goodies to enjoy at the restaurant or take out. Their coffee is excellent.

“New, hip, and just right for lighter fare”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

The Cocoon is located in an outbuilding in front of the historic Hawley Silk Mill (also formerly known as The Castle), and the drab stone exterior of the building gives you no hint of what awaits you when you enter.

The inside is difficult to describe, but the term "eclectic" is a good start. The single large room is filled with mismatched living room furniture, plus assorted tables and chairs. The walls are lined with bookcases, and there are newspapers available if you feel like reading while you linger over your coffee. All very chic / trendy, but in a very pleasing way. The employees were all young, hip-looking, and eager to please. They seemed to genuinely enjoy working here, and the combination of the people and the decor presented an inviting, homey, and relaxing atmosphere. It is both new and familiar at the same time. They have outside seating available, but it was a chilly November day, and we weren't interested.

If you are in the mood for a big, stick-to-your-ribs meal, then The Cocoon is not the place for you. If you are looking for coffee and a pastry, or perhaps tea and a sandwich in a really laid-back setting then this is your spot.

The assortment of food isn't the biggest that I have ever seen, but everything here is interesting. They have a good selection of specialty coffees in addition to tea and bottled soft drinks. We were there at lunchtime, and I was a little disappointed at first when I saw that the both the quiches and the sandwiches were pre-made and displayed in Saran Wrap. Fortunately, the quality of the food proved to be so good that it truly didn't matter.

I ordered an open-face sandwich of ricotta cheese and tomato with basil on flatbread. The counter person opened the wrapping and put it under the broiler for a minute or two, and it was just right. I had some of my wife's soup and it was so thick and rich that the spoon probably would have been able to stand up in the bowl by itself.

I recommend The Cocoon for a light lunch or a mid-day snack. You will leave this place feeling better than you did when you walked in.
