“Great hotel during Kipona”
Reviewed September 17, 2009

I´m glad that we decided to stop at Harrisburg during Kipona Festivals. This beautiful city was full of people and culture. Nice weather during the whole weekend.
You can´t stay more center than in this hotel. Everything is in walking distance. Rooms are clean and roomy. Hotel interrior is designed with good taste. Lobby is wonderful.
Definetinely will come back again. Kiitos !

the room smelled like a smelly toilet. i went to take a shower, and realized there were no bath towels. once finally in the shower, there was no hot water. we switched rooms to, believe it or not, a worse room. the closet door was broken off and dangling from the track. there were two enormous non-functioning lamps on a single bedside table. the furniture was in the wrong place in the room, creating an obstacle course, and lamp shades were askew. this hotel is a total disaster.

We have had good experiences with the Hilton family of hotels in general and decided to stay at this one because of the convenient location to where we needed to be.
The internet rates on the Hilton website were quite reasonable, considering that at one time the prices at this hotel were upwards of $150 per night. The economy has hit one and all.
We were not disappointed with the location, the staff, the ease of check-in and check-out. Nick, the valet, was absolutely superb! He seemed to be working alone every time we needed him during our two-night stay. He was able to handle a multitude of tasks at one time, and with efficiency and friendliness. The registration staff accommodated our requests for a quiet room. It faced the garage but we did not care about a view as we were in town for a funeral. Upon arrival in the room, we found a condolence card from the staff which was a wonderfully personal touch.
The rug did not appear to be as clean as it could have been. The beds were clean and comfortable, the A/C worked very well indeed, and there was plenty of hot water. We did find the bathroom small in size, especially compared to the size of the two Hampton Inns where we recently stayed. Plenty of towels were available as well. There was a safe in the room, which we like, and a flat screen TV, although the cable channel selections were few.

There were two negatives to mention. One was that the water in the bathroom sink drained very, very slowly and the shower head was a tad difficult to maneuver at first. The second is very thin walls. We requested a non-smoking room on a high floor in a quiet area if possible, but of course, one never knows about the noise level from other guests. It isn't that the guests were too noisy though, it is that the walls are so thin that not only could we hear their voices, but their every word as well. In this day and age, this is totally unnecessary to be able to hear entire conversations, from next door and from above as well, possibly through the A/C vent. These comments would not prevent us from staying there again, mainly for the convenience and for very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff members.
We did not check out the pool or the fitness center, but did use the business center, which was convenient and helpful. We had one small meal in the cafe late one night and the food was fine. Did not eat anything else there. Coffee and tea in the room were plentiful and the use of the pod-style coffee was good.
Valet costs $22 daily. We chose valet for several reasons and were not at all disappointed in the service. Street parking is free on weekends. Self-park is $12 daily and for us, would have taken more time and trouble than we wanted.
There is plenty to eat, drink, see and do in the area, and on foot too. We treated ourselves to a wonderful dinner in a very nice restaurant called Tavern on the Hill, across the river in Enola. Only takes a few minutes by car to get there and the atmosphere and staff are wonderful, not to mention most excellent food! There were seafood, steak and chicken choices, something for everyone. We chose the crab special and were not at all disappointed.
It is a beautiful city architecturally with great history. The State Capital is a wonder to behold and certainly worth the time it takes to tour. Also the Civil War Museum, just a short drive away from downtown, is truly first class! If time permits, side trips to Lancaster County, Perry County, Carlisle, or Gettysburg would be in order, dependant upon your choices.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again if the price is right!

I knew I wanted to stay somewhere within walking distance of City Island, the State Museum, and the government buildings. It was a toss up between the Hilton and the Crowne Plaza. The Hilton offered a better rate so I went with it (occupancy seems low right now throughout the city so some pretty decent rates are out there). Everyone from top on down was courteous and eager to please. Everything inside was spotless though there was a chair in my room that probably should be replaced. I did do valet parking (no problems) though on weekends you can actually park on the street for free.
My room was across the hall from 2nd St so there were no noise issues.

From the Hilton north on 2nd it is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights--cruising, lots of foot traffic. Many of the bars and restaurants have outside tables where you can sit and watch "the show" for hours. The Hilton had a live, outdoor Blues band. The upscale restaurant inside the Hilton is not open on Sundays but the main bar serves until 11pm. The Sunday brunch is around $25. and is kind of famous with the locals. I had trouble eating later that night. Tons of pubs and upscale restaurants like Bricco within walking distance.

My experience was excellent and I would stay there again, especially at an advantageous rate.

Stayed a night recently at the Hilton Harrisburg & Towers - as I have a couple times a year for the past 2 years. I have always had a quality experience at the Hilton Harrisburg.

Surprised at the May 2009 reviewer who had a bad experience. My room on the 9th floor was very clean, everything functioned well, brand new flat screen TV, fabulously comfortable bed, clean bathroom well stocked with towels. New looking furniture, including a granite topped TV chest that held a mini-fridge. Well functioning air conditioning system, desk with internet access, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron/board. MP3 player alarm clock, automated wakeup call system.

No noise from hallway.

Check in/out went smoothly.

Raspberries restaurant is reliable for a good breakfast buffet and not terribly expensive as compared to some hotel buffets.

If I had to say something was not top notch, it was the valet retrieval of our car, which took over 15 minutes - but note that this was very early, at 5am. This was the only time I experienced a longer valet wait from my past visits.

We just traveled up and down the east coast and stayed at all Hilton family hotels. This is the worst Hilton I've stayed at yet. The decor looks about 1860's (which might be a perfect match for the city). Everything was gold on gold. The room furnishings were dated and worn out. The kicker was the toilet seat. It was 3 inches too long for the toilet so it didn't line up right which was is so unlike Hilton standards. The bed was dusty and musty. The TV wasn't as good as other Hiltons. We stayed here based on many positive reviews and it blows my mind how anyone could say this is a wonderful place and up to Hilton standards. I've stayed at much nicer Hampton Inn's.

The check in was a disaster, we called for directions as we got close to the hotel
and the woman went on and on about how to pull into the garage around the corner. So I did and it made no sense as the garage is a long winding walk to the hotel through 2 elevators and a flight of stairs. So after check in we had to go all the way back to the garage, pull back to the front of hotel and ask a bell hop for help, they were understaffed and it took them 30 minutes to get the luggage to the room. Then we parked again and another long walk to the room.

The food was terrible, I've never had a bad meal at Hilton until this one. Asked for a burger medium and it was raw, not pink, but red with a stale bun and cold fries. My wife had the salmon which was dry and flat tasting. The room service person was quite nice however. The guys at the Starbucks connected to the hotel were great too.

If you like to drink booze and smoke cigars there is plenty to do in Harrisburg at night, otherwise not much going on that we could find. We took a walk to the riverfront which looked nice from a distance but were soon swarmed by gnats so we headed back. We couldn't wait to leave this hotel and city.
