“Good and comfortable”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

Everyone was nice and efficient. On our way in we met a fellow traveller in the elevator carrying bottles of water. She said the hotel is in an flodd area and was under a"boil alert". The desk said nothing when we checked in and we ould have become ill by using the tap water. The hotel did supply unlimited water for drinkning and some ablutions, but I removed one star because we were not informed at check-in of the water alert.

Thank you for your review of the Wyndham Garden Hotel Harrisburg. We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, there was a flood and water advisory over the area at that time due to the record rainfall. I apologize that you were not notified of this fact during your check-in.

We hope to see you again should your plans call for a return trip to our area.

Traveling from FL, to find a very worn hotel, front desk staff very nice, but after that don't expect to much. Pool closed. Elevators in need of remodeling, first impressions rough. Cheaper rate than most but now we know why, rooms are dated and bathroom with issues of cleanliness. Not what we had in mind. Will not say again.

We stayed here for 1 night on our vacation to Hershey Park. The hotel is clean and the rooms are a decent size. It is about a 15 minute drive to Hershey Park and centrally located. There is a strip mall with Target, Panera Bread across the highway along with a Bob Evans directly across the hotel.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. People were very friendly and accomodating. It was fairly close to Hershey Park. The room was clean.. The only complaint I have is the pool was not very clean. I didnt really want to swim in it.

My wife and I along with our two small children stayed for a night recently at the Wyndham Garden Hotel Harrisburg-Hershey. We had a room on the top floor (6th). The room was at the rear of the property so we had views of just some of the extended car park, the bins and high trees which you couldn’t see past. The room was a decent size, lightly decorated and clean. The beds were also big and comfortable. The bathroom too was a good size with a decent bath and shower with luxury complimentary toiletries which also included skim moisturiser. We could have had a potentially devastating incident from our room. We entered the room my wife and I was struggling into the room with one of the luggage trolleys and the pushchair. Our three year old went into the room to bag the best bed as she usually does being followed by our 1 year old. Within seconds we heard our daughter shout: “DAD QUICK QUICK – LOOK AT THIS – LOOK AT THIS THERE IS A BIG HOLE”. Puzzled my wife and I dropped everything and turned the corner. Our three year old (thankfully) was blocking an open metal hatch from our 1 year old. To our complete HORROR this open hatch which incidentally could not be locked shut (I believe the catch was broken) was only an hatch which lead to some service pipes BUT these pipes ran the whole length down the hotel and the gap was big enough for both children to have fallen in and all the way down to the ground level (see pictures). We shuddered to think of what could have been. We picked up the phone to speak to reception but the phone rang out. From checking in we were aware there was only one person on the desk so she may have been checking people in. We were more in shock than angry. We had never stayed her before or have never had a hotel room where there a service hatches actually in the room so we were not expecting this. We had quite big and heavy cases so we just used them to block off the hatch. We didn’t want it to spoil our stay and it didn’t. Had we been staying for longer than one night we would have complained and asked to have been moved room or the hatch fixed so it stayed shut.

The outdoor pool was an excellent size and was heated. It was clean. We will admit that the apparantly broken light still wired but just laid on the pool side did play on the back of our minds - I hope that is safe. The people already in the pool didn't seem to be suffering so we thought 'just relax' but the children were told - go anywhere near it and your OUT! The only improvement suggestion for the pool is that it could open earlier. It doesn’t open until 10. Anyone with young children knows how they are up at the crack of dawn and it was a very long wait in the morning for them to use the pool. It’s open until 2200hrs so during the summer we cannot see why it couldn’t open say at 8am.

The staff at the hotel were friendly, helpful and were very welcoming on check-in and check out. There is a cafe on site which was neither cheap nor expensive. It sold fresh fruit which was a bonus for us. There is also a computer offering free high-speed internet near the lobby. The lobby is surprisingly small but when we arrived we seemed to be the only ones there. Later however, coach loads of guests arrived and the queues for checking in and for the one lift (the other one had broken down) were long. There was also free wireless internet throughout the hotel apparently but our phones could not pick it up. The self service laundry was also out of order during our stay. With all this maintenance issues (broken laundry services, lift, pool light and service hatch catch in room) we got the impression either the maintenance staff are really busy or they are really slacking! This was our first as experience of the Wyndham chain and we have been left thikning, did we have a lucky escape?! Don't get us wrong the stay and the room was fine but we booked a Wyndham thinking they were a decent chain. I think this hotel ultimately lets their brand down, certainly since this was as I say our first impression of the hotel/ brand.

If you are driving to the area the hotel is in a perfect location. Close by to ‘Hershey, the sweetest place on earth’ (10 min drive) and the historic Harrisburg/ Gettysburg the hotel will serve as a good base if you intend to visit any of these places. The hotel is also set in area where there are a number of places to get food within walking distance.

!BE WARNED!
But BE WARNED! Exercise a little common sense and caution over your belongings and do not leave anything of value in your vehicle. During our stay I am aware of some guests who had their Sat-Nav (GPS) system on display all night and were shocked to learn their vehicle had been smashed into and it stolen. This is not a problem unique to this hotel and is a problem in every tourist area in every part of the world. Don’t let your guard down just because you are on vacation. This is what the criminals expect in tourist areas and this is why they are always successful. My advice would be to do as we do and remove every trace of valuables from the vehicle. Take all GPS cradles and chargers with you and even remove the sucker ring mark which gets left on the window to further add doubt on whether you have a GPS system. Sometimes we even find leaving the glove box open to show it has not been left in there further reduce the risk of the vehicle being broken in to and show any would be thieves it would be absolutely pointless breaking into this vehicle as there is nothing for them to steal. The hotel is not and will not take responsibility for any thefts from your vehicle or your personal property.

Would we stay here again? If the rate was good then yes but otherwise having stayed here once, we would try out other hotels in the area

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the property will have the best views for this property.Beware of the service...

Stayed for 3 nights. 1 elevator working and ceiling tiles missing in the hallways. Looks like the hotel is being updated. Housekeeping is slacking in cleanliness. No toilet paper on arrival in room and no towels after housekeeping cleaned the room. Beds were comfy and the sheets were clean. Pool dirty. Maybe when the hotel is finished being updated.

Thank you for your review of your stay at the Wyndham. I do want to apologize about the elevator not working. Our service contractor had to have a part shipped from outside the area. Yes, we are in the process of upgrading our fire alarm system for the safety of all of our guests and employees.

I have shared your housekeeping comments with our team. This is not the level of service we strive to provide for our guests. Again, our apologies for not meeting your needs.

We do appreciate your comments and feedback so that we may improve our performance. We hope to see you again in the future.
