“Clean, Safe, and Friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2011

I am picky about only two things when it comes to hotels in our limited price range - cleanliness and safe environs. I couldn't give a fig about whether the carpet is a bit worn or the decor a bit dated and don't look for either positives or negatives in physical appearance. This hotel gave us everything I wanted and needed, and a bit more.

First off, the hotel is about a half hour from Hersheypark - easy on and off the highway. I had no problem with noise - the AC provided enough white noise for comfort, and we were on the leeward side from the highway anyhow. Getting into the hotel off 81 was a bit of a quick-turn game, as you actually enter from the a point well past the hotel itself - just get into the far left lane as you get off or cross over the higheway, and be prepared to look for the "ENTER HERE" sign near the red Ramada sigh at the first light.

Check-in was quick and painless, with the gentleman on front desk being a wealth of information about the local area. Flyers with directions (all correct) to local eateries and stores was right there, as were directions to Hersheypark. Parking was abundant and convenient, plenty of luggage carts, no worries here.

Our room was clean, though for a smoke-free room it REEKED of smoke - we didn't complain, as it was late and we were tired; it says more about the mannerless former guest than it does about the hotel anyway. By day two, the smell was entirely gone so we didn't have to mention it to the front desk.

Our room - king sized bed and pull-out sofa - was roomy, though you can't use the computer desk when the pull-out is open; television had abundant channels. The fridge was spacious, and a microwave made our day. I prefer a softer mattress, but when my husband, who prefers firm, said that the mattress was too firm, it's a pretty good indication that it IS too firm. Temperature controls worked beautifully. Free wi-fi worked well, without need for access pass.

The pool was warm and clean with generous hours. It was almost exclusively ours for two nights, hideously crowded with loud, rowdy pool hogs the next two. You take what you get - it's not the hotel's fault. We brought our own towels (planning for Hersheypark) as the pool towels at every hotel we've ever been to leave much to be desired.

Breakfast - this seems to be a point of much whinging and moaning. When a hotel provides a FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST, people, don't come looking for a full-out breakfast buffet! If you want eggs, fresh fruit pancakes, etc. you should plan to eat out. Breakfast hours were 6-10 a.m. and it was, as expected, carb-heavy. Cereal (individual packages), bagels and breads for toasting, three make-your-own belgian waffles, apples and oranges, coffee, tea, and juice. On the second morning there was yogurt; on the third, we arrived after a huge extended family had just settled in, so pickings were slimmer - though the staff did her best to replenish the stock.

Also a plus for those whose children are furry - the hotel is pet-friendly; we saw several very happy pooches during our stay.

We enjoyed our stay tremendously for the bargain price we were able to grab online; any annoyances were caused by the poor manners and general inconsiderate nature of some of our fellow guests, not the hotel. We'd gladly stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a rear room on an upper floor - it's a good bet that it will be quieter than lower level...

Stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Hershey Park and Lancaster County which is what I imagine what you are thinking of doing as you read this review.
First room was too small, we needed 2 beds, so we were moved to a much nicer room.
Pool was clean, hot tub was clean. Pool and tub got pretty crowded at times but my 9 year old daughter loved it. There used to be a restaurant and bar adjacent to the hotel. Seems like they are renovating it now. The Gym was unfortunately out of commission . Breakfast was as good as a continental gets. Hotel is a solid 20 min. to Hershey and 45 min to Lancaster County.
Best part of the whole trip was pulling into an Amish farm that had Rootbeer advertised for sale. We met an 8 year old Amish boy that was polite, friendly, and talkative! Enjoy your trip!

Room Tip: Be careful of the lowest rate advertised online. It is a very small room with one bed.

PLEASE adhere to warning!!! THIS PLACE IS A DUMP and VERY POORLY managed!!!!!!!! I read all the reviews before going here and thought I would give this motel a chance. I made reservations online and called 2 days before our stay to confirm our reservations, AND stopped at 9AM on the morning of our stay to let them know we had arrived. We were told by the desk clerk we could not go to the room yet, but he would assign the room. We enjoyed our day at Hershey Park and arrived back at the motel at 10:00 PM to find out that we did not have a room and the motel was full. While we were arguing the fact, TWO other people had the same thing happen to them, and there was a HUGE line of people complaining about dirty bed sheets and blankets with stains, toilet was clogged, needing pillows that the motel was out of. THIS IS THE WORST experience with a motel I have ever had. Although I must say, the desk clerk, Morgan was fantastic!!! I really appreciated her help and in fact this motel did us a favor that we did NOT have to stay here. PLEASE if you read reviews, take this advise and GOOOOOOOOO somewhere else. I should have listened to the reviews as well!!!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at Ramada Harrisburg Hershey Area Hotel and were very pleased with our room (King Suite). It was very clean, which, for me, is the most important quality of any hotel room and the rate was more than reasonable. We were near the indoor pool and did notice a slight chlorine smell in the hall, but not at all once inside the room. The breakfast was just OK, but did serve the purpose of getting something to eat before leaving for the day. The most impressive thing about this hotel is one of the employees - Morgan. This young lady was very helpful to me on the phone when making my reservations, she addressed our concerns (things we had read about in other reviews) at check-in, and in the morning she did an excellent job of taking care of the breakfast area - she did it all. Thanks for everything Morgan - I hope Ramada knows how fortunate they are to have you as an employee.

Room Tip: Discuss your needs / wants with Morgan.

Good location right off of I-81 and only 10 miles to Hershey World. Large room with frig and microwave. Everything looked clean, but it had previously been some other hotel - outdoor sign was covered with a Ramada banner. Bathroom walls and counter were granite that appeared to be recent to cover up previous damage, maybe. Staff were friendly and helpful. Self serve luggage carts at front door were convenient. Pizza Hut delivers to your room. Free breakfast buffet. But they allowed pets. Rooms with pets are never thoroughly cleaned for allergy sufferers. Could hear barking through walls. Breakfast buffet ran out of food before 9:00 and needed some one to wipe tables after kids dripped syrup on them. If they made it pet free, I might stay here again.

I was a bit skeptical after reading the reviews but decided to book 3 rooms the wkend of July 16th. Well, to my surprise all 3 rooms were more than I expected. They were very well kept/clean. The front desk even acommodated all 3 rooms as close as possible. Which was great. The pool was fine eventhough I hoped it was bigger. Breakfast room also was small but take into consideration the hotel was packed; nevertheless, each day we found at least 2 tables to accomodate our party. Towels were always changed and beds made. I usually travel the least twice a year and I can definitely compare hotels. This is not a 5 stars hotel but still worth going!

The hotel was fine for what we had planned,a place to shower and sleep after we spent days at Dutch Wonderland and Hershey park. It was clean ,although the fan in the bathroom was very loud. We decided to stay an extra day and was advised by desk staff it would be "NO Problem" to stay in our current room only to find the next morning before leaving for an extra day at the park that we had to change rooms. The staff offered no help moving our things and when we left something in the room,we had to ask three seperate times and then demand they ask cleaning staff to check if something was found before our things were returned to us. Also if you need to use an elevator make sure you ask to be put in the wing of the hotel serviced by one! we had to push a loaded luggege trolly up two ramps to get to our room.
