I always hate when I have to be "realistic" about a hotel, but for the sake of fellow travelers, it's necessary here.

Folks, this is a Candlewood Suites. It is NOT a fancy hotel. Candlewood is Holiday Inn's (well, technically IHG Hotels) down-market extended-stay brand. Which, of course, does not mean that this is a bad hotel; just a pretty basic one. The hotel is new, which is almost always a good thing when it comes to chain hotels, and I see they've "tweaked" some of the Candlewood features to make this hotel better than your typical Candlewood. Like they have an indoor pool (utilitarian in design, but certainly nice enough to swim in). And the décor is a little nicer (but still only 3-star quality). Some folks below rave about free food and such that they've gotten, but that's unusual; for the moment, there's a customer appreciation night on Wednesdays, but that's about the only food you'll get at this hotel (there's a small "pantry" in the lobby where you can buy snacks).

I also don't like the fact that they call this an "all-suite" hotel. It is not. It is an "all-kitchenette" hotel. They basically stick a kitchenette in a regular sized hotel room.

Some will find the cooking facilities useful. Some will also find the free laundry machines in the lobby useful. Some will not. Many will probably miss the fact that this hotel does not provide free breakfast, as is now customary in most chain motels.

It also seems like this hotel is expensive for what it is. Do not assume that, for $150, you're getting more than an entry-level extended stay property. Because that's all you're getting here.

So with all those caveats, I like this place. The staff was friendly. The facilities are new and "sparkling." The location is accessible (although program your GPS, because while it's near this large Bass Pro Shops, it's not visible from the major roads). But it's a basic extended stay motel. It is certainly not deserving of the "best hotel in Harrisburg" rating that it currently has on tripadvisor.

Stayed in a basic suite (1 bed). Better than a suite anywhere else I've been. Super Clean!!! Comfortable bed, quiet room, nice TV w/ Direct TV and DVD player. Full size fridge, 2 burner glass range, microwave. Huge bathroom. Amenities are great! Indoor pool & hot tub. On site laundry room, free. On site fitness center. On site "Cupboard" store. Brought my Husky with me since they are a pet friendly hotel. Staff was friendly and well informed of surrounding eateries and shopping locations. Candlewood is close to highways and shopping. They even ordered pizza for everyone on Wednesdays from 5PM - 7PM, all you can eat from Papa John's. Will most definitely be staying every time I am on business in the area.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. It was the first stay at a Candlewood suites. I have stayed at Marriott Residence Inns, Hilton Homewood suites, and Marriot Townplaces which also have similar room setups with kitchens. One thing this hotel has unlike the others which is nice is free laundry, but we did not need to utilize since it was the beginning of our trip. One negative is there is no free breakfast. Also It would be nice if the hotel had a list of recommended nearby restaurants, especially ones unique to the area. When we asked the woman at the desk about restaurant recommendations she only listed off chain restaurants. Although that is fine, i prefer to try restaurants that i would not ordinarily experience in any city.

How I missed this gem of a hotel when I booked for two nights at the Holiday inn on Lindle Road for a Hershey park visit is beyond me. Checked in at the Holiday Inn and checked out an hour later. This Candlewood Suites is brand new. Today is their 60 day since it's grand opening and I am extremely satisfied with what I see. The hotel staff is outstanding. Our room felt like a home away from home. It was furnished with 2 queen beds and also had a nice kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator with built in ice maker, small electric cook top and a full sized over the range microwave oven. The drawers have knives, forks and spoons and the cupboard have cups, plates and other kitchen essentials. The beds are comfortable and our son loved the recliner. We really felt comfortable and right at home. If you are planning on visiting Hershey park or the Harrisburg area, look no where else but here. The Harrisburg mall is right next door as well as major highways.

Stop ! Don't spend hours looking at any other hotels in this area or within 30 miles of this area - just book here and stay but you may never want to leave.

These are Real suites with massive rooms, fantastic beds, bathrooms, full 42" TV services, Full kitchen services (huge america fridge with chilled water already in there for your arrival) - unlimited coffee in reception, FREE pizza & FREE cold beer from 5.30pm to 7.00pm in reception. The free breakfast was extremely tasty and loved the hot waffles plus fruit, fruit, fruit.

Staff are amazing and will do anything for you. We had booked a suite with 2 double beds for £83 ($130) and was blown away by this place . Immediately, we contacted another family member to join us there and the reception staff got us another "Single" room which was a huge kingsize bed suite with everything in there - huge place for an extra $60 cash (£39).

Has a swimming pool which is immaculate as you would expect for a brand new place.

To Do : You must go an visit the State Capital building which is free to enter - we got there at 5pm (1 hour before it closed to the general public) and after chatting to the police officers on duty about us travelling from the UK to see this place, they allowed us to park outside in the government parking spaces free of charge -there is a local shopping mall where you can park all day for a few dollars as well.
