“Good food and meh service”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

My family celebrated my mother's birthday at this restaurant on Saturday, June 22nd. Our party consisted of my wife, my mother, my father, my sister, her boyfriend, and myself.

The food itself was quite good. Most of the party ordered the artichoke appetizer which everyone found quite tasty. I ordered the chilled pea and lobster soup, which was good. A nice refreshing summer soup.

For the entrees I ordered the pork tenderloin. Others ordered the lamb, the salmon, and the steak. We all enjoyed our meals. The problem was with the service. The service was not terrible, but for a top billed restaurant in a higher end business hotel it was wanting. The appetizers came out staggered which made for a few awkward moments when some of us had food before them while others sat there. The was a long break between courses and then again the food came out staggered, so some had food before them getting cold while others were waiting. If this were an Outback it would be fine, but this is not an Outback. Part of the price and the semi a la carte menu is for the ambiance and the service.

My parents patronize this restaurant three or four times a year, and enjoy it greatly. Perhaps we were there on an off night. Still, it was just a touch disappointing.

“an IN crowd spot in Harrisburg”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Great steaks but have a lobbyist pick up the tab. Very pricey by Harrisburg or Central PA standards. a lot of Political events at the Hilton that spill over to this place in the wee hours

“Not Exactly Fine Dining”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

First of all, the bar for "Fine Dining" in central Pennsylvania is pretty low. Golden Sheaf has for years been considered one of the best. On the positive side, the food and table service last evening were excellent - couldn't have asked for better. On the other side, there were several details which hurt the experience. One, at check in, one of the staff reeked of tobacco smoke. Got another major whiff when he sat someone near us. Not a good start to a dining experience. Suggestion: when "on duty," forget the smoke breaks unles you shower and change clothes thereafter. Second, the room is much too small for the number of place settings. They utilize the dreaded "banquette against the wall" fronted by tables for two, much too close together. Fortunately, the one next to us was not occupied; if it had been, our neighbors would have been in our laps. Finally, even at 6:30 PM on a Saturday there was present the loud, obnoxious drunk who felt he needed to break out in loud, raucous laughter at each of his (to his perception) witty remarks. No intervention by the staff. In summary, a restaurant with food that good and waitstaff that attentive should do better than 3 stars. Needs some attention to detail.

“Well Worth It’s Stars”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

It is easy to see why this restaurant has earned 4 AAA stars over many years, even though located off a hotel lobby. The staff was pleasantly attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable. The food was well-prepared and delicious. They have a fabulously long wine list with a reasonable, but not extensive choice of wines available by the glass. Ambience is a bit lacking in that the space is small and the decor mid 20th century “hotel chic.” On a Thursday evening, there were only two other tables occupied, so we were seated near the door obviously to entice more diners. A party of six was loud and we could hear their conversation quite well. When the room is filled, noise might be problem.
