You are 30 years behind the times of the World!! What is good about it, except Carley's Piano Bar & grill, which, we love! Great food, tapas, wine & atmosphere!
Doesn't get any better than this....

The downtown area of Harrisburg is that of small city surrounded by the rolling hills of the central Pennsylvania and the beautiful Susquehanna river. The capital area is very pretty and easy to wander around as there's a park around the building itself that has nice benches to rest and watch the squirrels and birds or wander over to the Pennsylvania state history museum. The capital is very interesting to tour in an of itself and learned the dome was made of a special green glass. There's also a arts and science center they now call the Whitaker Center that has a hands on science floor with very interesting activities for younger kids and artwork in the upper floors as you enter. The IMAX theater is great with a good selection of movies! The Whitaker center is connected to Strawberry Square that has a nice food court with decent selection, beautiful two story mechanical see through clock, plenty of seating and is also co nected to the Hilton hotel that has great (but pricer food) and a parking garage that you enter on Walnut Street think it was. The riverwalk area is lovely and has a nice paved walking or jogging path that extends close to the other end of town. (Maybe mile and half guessing) Seasonally they offer arts and crafts exhibits both at Pa museum previously mentioned and front street fair in the spring. Vendors come from all over for the fair. The towns traffic in downtown Harrisburg becomes very busy around 3:30-6pm and the right lane is mostly for turns...FYI...there's two one way streets that are nice but the crime rate and drunkard you get crowds increases in early evening. Stay in pairs after dark.

Wasn't happy at all driving in downtown Harrisburg. Too many cars for the roads, trucks blocking lanes with no warning, barely room to get down some streets with cars parked on both sides, no place to park. In fact, driving into Harrisburg was a nightmare as well, it reminded me of the worst traffic in Los Angeles!

If you go, make it for lunch or for an EARLY evening. The renowned Restaurant Row has some excellent eateries, but my advice is to get in and out before the bar crowd takes over. That's when things have gotten out of hand. The area was once hailed as a renaissance strip for twenty-somethings in downtown Harrisburg but lately it has gotten a reputation as being a high-crime area. The restaurant owners and the police have tried to clean up the area, and at least one bar where violent crime occurred has closed.
