This is a great place to visit to gain an overview of the Civil War and particularly the history pertinenet to Harrisburg and the surrounding area that played a vital role in Civil War history. The museum is a great place to intoduce children and young people to this time in history. The displays are very realistic and detailed as well as the documentation.

“Made us really appreciate the pains our Nation has endured”
Reviewed May 26, 2014

War's toll is revealed not only on the battlefields but also from the medical side, the home life, and the political side. The museum has frequent narrations with many artifacts which keeps things very interesting. There are also struggles of slavery, difficult and unpopular presidential decisions as well as depictions of the assassination of President Lincoln. The struggles of two great generals are recreated in depth on the battlefields as the war progresses. You can't help but be drawn in and captivated by this wonderful exhibit. A must for novices as well as history buffs.

“Quiet inviting Museum”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

It is situated at the top of a park with commanding views of the surrounding area . Inside it is extremely clean and quiet . Easy to maneuver around all the displays . Staff was very pleasant and welcoming . It is not the best or biggest Civil War museum but you will be entertained and see something new . Good for young or old . Very, very clean and well maintained as well as the park that it's in . You should plan on a couple to three hours if you are not in a hurry . Pack a lunch and eat it in the park . Plenty of free parking . We followed the GPS till we got close then just the signs to the park and then museum . No big deal to get there but you do drive through some ruff area . Use AAA or AARP if you have them . Gettysburg and Richmond are much bigger but still a nice museum .

“All Encompassing”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

By far the most complete museum devoted to the Civil War in the a North, this facility has a great layout that guides the visitor through the events leading up to, during, and the period of reconstruction after the war between the states. Exhibits provide even the novice historian an understanding of the war and it's causes with actual artifacts from the time. Foreign visitors will find this museum more balanced than most similar venues in its presentations of both sides of the conflict.

“My 4th grader loved it !”
Reviewed May 15, 2014

Shame in me for never going in here until my son asked. I work really close by.
It is way bigger than I thought and a million time cooler!

It was great to walk thru with just my youngest son, see all the exhibits and talk too each other.

Go if you have the chance.
