“A must see experience for young and old alike!”

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting this museum with our Friends of Gettysburg group. We visited with Wayne Motts as well as the curator and we were able to see the archives. The people of Harrisburg have a wonderful Museum that represents the whole aspect of the war. North, South, women, slaves. The museum has a lot of wonderful civil war relics, documents and treasures that I couldn't believe still existed.

“wonderful museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

The War is seen through the eyes of slaves, families, etc. There are many exhibits and movies, detailing events and how both sides felt after Lee surrendered and Lincoln was killed. There is a life mask of Lincoln and Lee's Bible among the many artifacts displayed.. It details the making of armies, the weapons, campaigns, Civil War music, field hospitals and amputations, the many firsts (such as medals of honor), etc. Allow at least 2 hours. There is also a good museum shop.

“Great Overview of the Civil War”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Facility is excellent. Clean and easy access. The museum is very well laid out and easy to follow. The exhibits are outstanding and the descriptions are easy to read and understand for all ages. Importantly the PC police have not gotten hold of it and rewritten it to show bias. Very accurate, unbiased write ups. Prompted good discussion with my teenage children .I especially liked that the exhibit is presented chronologically and gives a complete overview of the Civil War. If you do not have a good understanding of the Civil War and its major events this is the place to go. You will walk away with a better understanding and appreciation of the most critical period in US history. You should make it a must visit for your family. A great gift to them.

“A Wonderful History of the Civil War”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

The National Civil War Museum contains a very detailed story of this time in American history. There are vignettes, photos, dioramas, storyboards, and detailed descriptions of different battles over the period of the war. The entire subject was treated very subjectively, with no favoritism shown to either side in the conflict. It is a great place to bring your children to learn about a very critical time in our history.

“Great place to visit if you're also going to Gettysburg”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

My daughter and I stopped here for an afternoon on our way to Gettysburg. The museum was very well laid out and the exhibits were great. We were not that immersed in Civil War history so it was a good place to stop and get a complete overview before concentrating on a single engagement like Gettysburg. Highly recommend.
