Owner description: Wildwood Park is located in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania on the outskirts of downtown Harrisburg. Its 229 acres are a haven for countless species of flora and fauna centered around the 90 acre freshwater wetland. A popular three-mile loop trail encircles the park with side trails and boardwalks for a total of six miles of trails. Its attractive Olewine Nature Center features engaging exhibits on environmental education. Established in 1901, during the City Beautiful Movement, Wildwood was part of a nationwide effort to improve urban life. In 1976, the Dauphin County Commissioners assumed ownership of the property. Now managed by Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department, Wildwood Park is one of Pennsylvania’s premier centers for environmental studies, educational opportunities and outdoor recreation. It is a cherished retreat for nature lovers, bird watchers and exercise enthusiasts.

“Hidden Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2012 via mobile

This over 100 year old county park is a great find north of Harrisburg. Good trails, a nature center with a viewing deck and an interesting variety of birds. And best of all it is free!. A terrific place to spend time.

“Nice place for a walk”

Good nature center and nice scenery considering it is sandwiched between an industrial park and a highway.

“Wildwood Sanctuary: a great place for an evening walk!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2012

We go there several times a year, with or without grand-kids. With all the boardwalks, you can go even it has been rainy. Not Olympic National Park (which we have also visited), but a really nice forest area within a ten-minute drive of down-town Harrisburg. We have a photography friend who goes there almost every evening to take pictures which win contests! We have lots of similar pictures ourselves, but we'll leave the contests to her.

“Nature up close”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

What a great place for hiking or biking. The trails offer lots of beautiful views and opportunities to see wildlife, like ducks, turtles and frogs. This place is particularly lovely in late June, when the lily pond is in bloom. It feels like it's remote, but it's right along a main highway, just a stone's throw from the PA Farm Show property.

“A great way to spend a few hours. Great trails, birds, and other wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2012

A great urban park which is sort of the Northern version of the Six Mile Cypress Preserve in Fort Myers, Florida. There are always bird citings, including water birds, miles of boardwalk trail around the lake.
