Beautiful building inside, and full of interesting books. Even has some screen free areas requesting no computers or cell phone use. Could have stayed much longer but our 6 year was not interested in the story time.

Slightly off the beaten path for a traveler, but well worth the stop. A spacious and friendly book store and coffee shop. The Sunday I was there had an afternoon of free entertainment in conjunction with the Harrisburg yearly "Gallery Art Walk"... a delightful experience!

Our whole family loves used book stores. It's often our first stop in any town while travelling. The Midtown Scholar stands out because of its beauty, its excellent organization, and its sheer size. There are books on every topic imaginable, grouped by subject. There is a famous authors section. Plus they have a coffee bar, and some comfy chairs. Not to be missed when in Harrisburg!

We were headed east on I-76 near Harrisburg when we stopped at a rest area, in info rack was a brochure for Midtown Scholar, a local independent book store ( unfortunately a dying breed), so we took a detour into town to stop there. The neighborhood is at best transitional, leaning towards the rough side, and the as stated before the Facade was less than impressive, but once inside the store is a wonderful work of renovated architecture that provides a home for a wide variety of books ( and a coffee shop). The staff was eclectic and very helpful. When I discovered a book set that seemed extremely overpriced, a staff member noted that the books had been there for a while, checked the latest pricing and repriced the books for me. I found a wide selection of books on The Civil War, and Architecture, many that I had never seen before. A very good section is one that holds books on famous authors, if you can't find a particular Author, again the staff is there to help you! This store will be a must stop anytime I am in the area

Pulled up and wondered what the fuss was. Not the best section of town, paperback book racks on sidewalk, unimpressive exterior. But the inside was something else entirely. The main room is a two story room with iron railings along the balconies, and an old bell hung from the ceiling. There is a large upstairs portion which has an impressive amount of used art books. There are two other levels below this and the lowest level was the most interesting. There are some very unique, rare books behind glass and an enormous room devoted to used science and nature books. First editions of jukes Verne in perfect conditions are next to 16th century hymnals.

The more we looked, the more rooms we found. Spent most of a morning and could have spent longer. Well worth a visit for any bibliophile.
