Owner description: Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

Talk about a beautiful piece of architecture! Be sure to stop by the Capitol and then the market nearby if at the end of the week. A great place to practice your photography skills!

Our organization hosts two legislative days each year to educate our members on the need to be politicically aware and active. I did research on the building in my graduate work, and am always in awe of its beauty. Pennsylvania can be very proud of our Capitol!

This is an amazing building in so many respects....how quickly it was build and at what cost. I won't spoil the surprise by giving away those stats. You will marvel at the art, the bronze, the gold, the marble.

The tour is only 30 minutes or so but you can wander (in most areas) more on your own. When we visited, there were exhibits in the lobby on Pennsylvania's role in the Civil War...quite a nice bonus.

The tour is free and nearby on the street parking is reasonable ($3 for 2 hours). A tip: be sure to bring quarters.

Our family visited and took the free tour of the State Capitol on a Wednesday morning.

We enjoyed everything about the tour, the building, the history, and the grounds. Our children are 19 and 21 years old and really enjoyed the history, architecture, and art in the building. The tour started on time, wasn't crowded, and was very informative.

We could have lingered for several hours if we didn't have other appointments.

All Pennsylvania families should tour the State Capitol.

I have heard that the PA capitol is so like the DC capitol that often films with DC storylines are often filmed here for convenience/cost. The floors and ceilings abound with grand art/craftsmanship.
