This has to be one of the most appalling hotels we have ever stayed in; rooms were dirty and smelly, (the no smoking rooms stank of stale smoke)
Dirty old fridge and microwave in the room.
The only way to the second floor is via one staircase.... no elevators... very difficult with kids!
The Wi Fi only works in the lobby,
The 'de luxe' continental breakfast was anything but!
The management really didn't care about any "comments" we wished to raise.
They refused to accept the coupon in the PA travel coupons and guide, charging $65 per room, (coupon rate was $40).
On the way back we stayed at a really nice Holiday Inn, in nearby Carlisle, same room rate.

We stopped at this hotel at 1am halfway through a 15 hour drive. We had a coupon from a coupon book we got at a rest area. The coupon stated that the room would be $43 a night - and it listed this specific hotel, address and all. So, we got there and the lobby was kind of grubby and the clerk looked unkempt. He quoted a price of $93 a night. I asked about the coupon and showed it to him. He said that they don't take that coupon. I pointed out that it was this specific hotel and showed him the address. He again said that they don't take that coupon but offered me the AAA rate of $85 a night. We left. I don't object to paying $93 a night - I object to their refusal to take the coupon that was for their specific hotel.

My first impression when we walked in was when the clerk came from the back after we rang the bell on the desk. We could hear loud music in the back, and he came out laughing and joking over his shoulder to someone in the back. He had to put his name tag on before he could come over and help us. We were early, so we couldn't go to our rooms, but he gave us the keys. We came back late that night and neither key worked (we had two rooms). When I got mine re-keyed, I went to the room, only to find that room was already occupied by other guests!

We finally got it straightened out and they gave me the key to the right room, which was clearly marked in the computer, but the first guy couldn't read, I guess. The room was sort of clean, but no one ever changed out the tissue box during our entire stay, even though a container of Papa Johns garlic butter sauce was clearly visible where tissues should have been.

The next day we spent the entire day at Hersheypark (which was great, by the way). When we came back, neither key worked again, but it didn't matter because the cleaning people had left my door open all day, so anyone who wanted to steal anything from my room, didn't NEED a key!!!

If you don't mind waking strangers up in the middle of the night, or leaving your belongings conveniently available for people to take, then stay at the Howard Johnsons in Hershey. If you're like me, I'd prefer to stay somewhere where the staff actually cares about the guests.

Could not find hotel with directions given from 800 number. Never slept in hotel but the customer service is terrible. We called to let the hotel know that we could not find the hotel but were too tired to keep trying, since we were on motorcycles. The hotel stated that we still have to pay for 1 room. (2) rooms were booked. The hotel also told us that if we wanted to call we could call on Monday and talk to the manager. The manager might be able to do something about paying for the room never used. We called on Monday and the manager said he would deducted the cost to half the price, which was half of 1 room charge. We agreed. 2 weeks later my credit card was charged for 4 rooms. When we questioned the same manager, he stated "that someone must have stole our card and used it because he would not be able to charge us for those rooms unless the card was swiped" and he refused to do anything about it. Funny how the person who stole our card decided to call the same hotel we made arrangement in?! Becareful with your credit card with this hotel. They are crooks!

The Sleep Inn, Harriburg was well worth the money. The room was clean and the bathroom even cleaner. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast consisted of english muffins, cereal, donuts, coffee, milk and juice. All Herhsey attractions were within 15 minutes and were a straight shot from the hotel. The hotels close to the attractions were pricey and the one that weren't pricey were very ran down. The Sleep Inn is perfect for a family looking for a clean affordable hotel!

Beware. The Sleep Inn charges $1.00 for "safe warranty" - a safe in your room. You can waive it, but the sign that tells you that at the desk was covered by another sign. The desk clerk would not remove the charge. Otherwise, a good value. Quiet room.
