“Great Subs and Fun With The Goats!”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

I took my grand kids to Tropical Treat and had a great time. The food was a little pricey but it was excellent "summer outdoor food". I had a steak sub that reminded me of the awesome subs I used to get at the beach when I was a child. The portions were very generous. My grand kids thoroughly enjoyed feeding french fries to the goats in the pen next to the pavilion. This will definitely be a summertime treat for us from now on!

“A swing and a miss.”
Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

We decided to go for a nice drive with destination ice cream! After a nice 45 minute drive we came upon a throwback place called The Tropical Treat. This is a place that seems to have been in operation since the 1950's. It's a drive-in restaurant with a menu filled with food and ice cream treats. You can order your food by walking up to a window or use one of the many drive-up stations. That's the fun option we chose. After three attempts to communicate our order through the speaker we thought all was well. In a few minutes the roving waitress came by with our partial order, a peach sundae and a chocolate milkshake. They were short one shake. It didn't take long to get the second shake but they made it seem like we messed up the order. The peach sundae was terrible. Here we are in the middle of peach country and they used a horrid canned peach cocktail. There was more whipped cream than ice cream. The ice cream was not very creamy or tasty. The milkshakes were just as bad. Way too thick because of lack of milk. They didn't use chocolate ice cream and not much chocolate syrup. We didn't finish our items and that's not common because we tolerate a lot if mediocre food.
I hope this place improves because we need to have places like this.

“Summer is officially here!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

Tropical Treat is a Hanover land mark and its annual opening marks the start of what I officially consider summer. Tropical Treat features a fifties-style drive-in and walk-up windows with great american food and lots of summer treats including milkshakes, malts and soft-serve. The local favorite menu item, the "Fatboy" is worth a regular visit. Get there early...the drive-in bay fills up quick!

“The rite of Spring”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

When you head for your first annual visit to Tropical Treat you know spring has sprung. We headed out on a Saturday early evening and ordered from the window rather than wait for a car spot. Waiting for a car spot can be fun especially if you see some folks pull in that don't know the rules, it can be quite comical.
Ok, the food, it is avarage drive in diner food. Realizing that DON"T order anything that might be considered seafood. When you see a price of $3.95 for a crab cake, don't set yourself up for failure, don't order a crab cake.
The "Fat Boy" is their specialty and they make an awesome BBQ hot dog, Stay with the basics and enjoy the atmosphere. Look, I am only trying to help here, DON"T order the crab cake. The broasted chicken is greasy but oh sooo good

This is a great place to go after your initial spring 'cuttin' of the lawn' ritual

“Local Treat”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Good old fashion service. You pull up to speakers and place your order, food delivered to your car. The food was wonderful, highly recommend the Fat Boy - go ahead and order extra sauce and napkins !! Sorry Sonic imitations not excepted.
