“Gentle and Relaxing”
Reviewed August 14, 2010

We enjoyed a leisurely around Conservation Island at the heart of the park, which the warden recommended as a short stroll. The sunlight shines through the trees to make a mappled pattern on the ground; in the water there are a few people out in their canoes. Although the beach area was very busy (last Sunday afternoon), the island itself was quiet.

“Prepare to be Wowed!”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

I've stayed at many camp grounds and Promised Land ranks right up there as one of the best. The state of PA recently funneled a great deal of monies into restoration of their state parks, particularly the camping areas. The sites are beautiful, most w/plenty of shade. Tent sites are "green", camper sites include a paved pad! The facilities include brand new modern restrooms, showers, outdoor stainless steel sinks for doing dishes as well as a laundry room. Plenty to do - swimming, boating, playground, fishing, hiking. Reservations are a breeze with the states new on-line reservations system. Staff were friendly, helpful. This place is a breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively!

“Good family fun”
Reviewed March 22, 2009

As a small child my family would rent one of the cabins at PL. When my brother and I were a little older my family would tent camp at Lower Lake. As I entered middle school my parents purcahsed a lease so we have a cabin in the park now. This is a wonderful park to tent camp and hike. I am not sure how the RV/camper facilities are as I've never used them.

The beach is clean and easily accessible. There is not a lot in the way of entertainment in the general area so plan on taking along games or just exploring in the woods. Fishing and boating on the lake is another favorite of visitors.

“Beautiful Park, Clean Campgrounds”
Reviewed July 26, 2007

My husband and I spent a relaxing weekend tent camping in July 2007 at Promised Land State Park. The park is located in Pike County, PA, 10 miles north of Canadensis, along PA 390, about a 2 hour drive from Philadelphia, PA. This park has 4 separate camping areas; check the website before you reserve to see which campground suits your needs. We wanted a secluded tent camping spot, so we stayed in the Lower Lake Campground, in the "Rhododendron" section. This area was away from the RV area, with spacious sites many of which have tent platforms. Bathrooms were remarkably clean and modern, including showers with free hot water. If you are tent camping with kids, I would recommend you stay at the Pines Campground; while the bathroom facilities are not as modern, you can walk from here to the beach area, which includes a guarded sandy beach, large playground, pay showers, and picnic area. Just north of the park ranger station, and before you get to the lake, there is a camp store which carries just about everything you may need or forgot to pack such as ice, firewood, camping supplies, food staples, sandwiches, live bait and fishing tackle. There is boat /kayak rental on the lake. Other activities here are miles of hiking trails, biking on the paved park roads, and birdwatching (a pair of bald eagles nests at the Lower Lake). The park had a nice range of organized activities, including bird walks and children's programs. If you have a sweet tooth, a trip to Callies Candy Factory in Mountainhome PA, a few miles south of the park, is a must!
