If you are in the Gouldsboro, PA this is just about the best you can find for local flavor, tavern atmosphere, reasonable prices and a nice crowd.

We've been coming here for a number of years as it's the closest restaurant to the Big Bass Lake area and serves alcohol. It's split into a large and lively bar area and a quieter dining area. They added an outdoor deck about two years ago.

The bar area is full of local patrons and there is always a laughing and bantering amongst them. The crowd is mostly mid-age adults and older so no young people hanging out. People greet each other like long lost friends and the TVs keep they engaged with the latest sports broadcast. The dining area has young families and older couples enjoying the Saturday night prime rib. One evening a patron at the bar who had one too many and started acting out at the bar and was quickly told to keep it down there were families around. So the staff knows and understands what is appropriate and willing to take action!

The menu is mostly tavern food - meat, potatoes, fried food, soup and maybe a fish entree on the menu. It is not a place for non-meat eaters although I noted a veggie burger on the daily special menu. Since we are basically non beef eaters, and we shy away from fried food, we find the menu limiting. You can always order the chicken burger which is really chicken breast or a pizza. We went there around the holidays and they actually had some Italian food on the menu (eggplant parm, pasta, etc.), but found they really haven't followed up in this category.

The drinks are generous, the staff is pleasant and efficient, Dutch will stop by now and then to see if you are doing okay. I don't think you could ask for more!

I will not return here. The best part of my meal was the onion soup. My fried chicken was just so so with not much flavor past the friedness. My mom got sweet potato fries with her panini and they were disgusting. And my dad just tolerated his burger.

The Dutchman Tavern in Gouldsboro offers a terrific Tavern /Pub style dining experience; this warm inviting Pocono Mountain restaurant exceeds expectations. The hearty fare is prepared well with generous portions and the friendly service is attentive and responsive at all times. The bar is well stocked and friendly. If you want privacy or sociable pleasant conversation you will find a place in this lively restaurant.
Some may consider the menu limited; all the dishes are intelligently chosen for freshness and wholesomeness. Everything I ever tried has been good. I always try to come on a Saturday night for the Prime Rib Special, a plentiful portion of delicious prime rib roast served to order with mashed or baked potato and a daily vegetable or to order. Other delectable entrees are the Fish and Chips, French dip or any of the great hamburgers.
Overall, a great Pocono Mountain experience where the drinks are poured well and owner stops by your table. This place will soon be considered an area landmark restaurant.

Was to the restaurant three times last year. Twice we a great time. Last time one server for the bar and restaurant was a bit of a pain. Every time the food was very good and the prices extremely reasonable. The outside area was a bonus.

First time ordering a dinner at the Dutchman. Our food very tasty, nice size portions, the price was right too. Really nice atmosphere, can eat on their outside deck, very pleasant. We ordered hamburgers, but saw the fish and chips, wraps and other entrees that other patrons were eating, looked very good too. Will definitely return for lunch or dinner. Nice to have a restaurant in the area, that is better than fast food, but not too expensive. carol and george from nj.
