We have gone to Hartwood Cafe/Whispers pub since it opened usually at least once per week and it used to be great. Since the change in ownership, the place has really going downhill. The restaurant has a very nice outside seating area but it often smells like a smoking section because the staff smokes within several feet of the tables. . . so we end up having to move. We have complained several times--the staff has always been apologetic but at this point it really doesn't matter because it keeps happening every time we return. The service has also declined. Although the waitstaff is great, items now frequently come from the kitchen missing key items so that we constantly have to ask for them. Long story short, this used to be a great neighborhoold place to dine and relax but it seems to be suffering from poor management and oversight.

Found this gem via word of mouth while shopping at a nearby quilt supply store. Tucked away on a rural stretch of road in Pennsylvania, this renovated Victorian home is just beautiful inside. The pub/bar area is to one side as you enter and the rest of the first floor is a gorgeously decorated cafe/restaurant. Check out the stained glass window the "Whispers" bar is named for.
Service was great and the luncheon selections were interesting, nicely presented - and delicious. Price is what you would expect for good food and ambiance.
Admittedly, this is a bit out of the way - but if you're in the neighborhood (15-20 minutes from Pittsburgh) it's definitely worth the drive.

Hartwood Restaurant is located in Glenshaw, PA, north of Pittsburgh. It is situated near Hartwood Acres, which has an outdoor entertainment stage, forested area for walking, and a beautiful house for touring. The restaurant is warming and interesting and the bar is wooded and friendly. Recently, we went for a wine tasting. The food and wine were great, and the staff was most accommodating.

This was the worst service we have ever experienced. Our server was unbelievalbly terrible. We (party of six) complained to the manager on staff Saturday night, February 12th and we all were amazed at her lack of caring. Good service obviously wasn't important to her. To top off the unwritten list of reasons why this was such a horrible experience was the fact that when we got our bill for $240, handwritten to the bottom of the bill was an additional $50 for a tip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT EVER WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!

I have eaten at this restaurant many times and it seems that the quality of food has gotton worse.I ordered the salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries and the fries were burnt. The salmon had no flavor. My wife had the breaded cod and it was not the same as in the past. It used to be a fresh piece of cod nicely breaded on a fresh bun. Both of our buns were toasted but i think they also were old. Ever since there has been new ownership, and the orginal chef and his wife left, the food has gone done. I think they are more concerned about making money. If nobody comes to the restaurant, they will make no money. I hopoe the owners read this or someday the business will be closed.
