“RUDE waiter”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

Upon asking for my third glass of wine after over an hour of having a dinner with my girl friend, our waiter asked us who was driving. Clearly my friend was driving, who had little to drink, but there was no reason for him to ask in the first place. Meanwhile, people at the bar were much louder than us, and were having a good time. Unbelievably rude, will not go back.

“Succulent Fried Oysters”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

My wife and I ate here for the first time, lunching c. 1:00 on a Tuesday, and experienced that rarest of meals: getting more than we expected, and better quality than we paid for.
Located in a beautifully decorated traditional inn, Ludwig's exudes old world ambiance but without the stuffiness that expression implies. Both us of had the fried oysters for lunch; they were served with a plate full of delicious fries, very fresh tasting coleslaw, and a creme brule sized cup of obviously home made remoulade. We had been hiking in nearby French Creek State Park and were famished, but this $12 entree filled us such that I couldn't eat my roll nor finish my wife's fries. The four oysters on each plate were huge, and they tasted better than any we recall eating at the Jersey shore.
Also, they have at least ten beers on tap--Victory, Dogfish, Blue Moon, and the ubiquitous Coor's Light--and another fifteen craft beers in the bottle, as well as the usual popular domestics. We read that on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from four until at least six, they have eight different oysters available for $1-$2 a shuck. Our waitress Stephani was excellent, efficient and effective. In a word, Ludwig's is a Chester County gem, and we look forwarding to returning soon with friends for dinner.

“Great place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

My large family and I had the most distinct pleasure to luncheon at Ludwig's, recently. The staff was more than accomodating to our group of 12. Though we arrived 10 minutes before opening time, they opened their doors to us (something most restaurants won't do) and seated us immediately. Our waitress did a marvelous job keeping everyone happy, taking our drink orders right away and staying in touch throughout (again, something many restaurants fail to do). Our food was prepared as requested, served warm/cold as needed, and drinks (coffee/tea, etc.) were replenished without request. I loved the warm and comfortable wood interior of the restaurant and beautiful bar; making this place, in my estimation, more than suitable for business lunches, friend get-togethers and of course, family groups. Including a few appetizers, non-alcohol drinks, tip and tax, our bill was a most reasonable $14 per person. Though the drive for me is 45 minutes, I will gladly return - the ambience, the staff and food - all made it worth the trip.

“Dark and Stodgy - Average Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

The fresh raw oysters were the highlight of course, but even they were served without proper utensils. Thin rather than rich snapper soup, undercooked ravioli, slow inattentive service in a less than half-filled dining room. The ingredients for the soups had been reduced to uniformly tiny, nearly unidentifiable bits in a food processer. Dirty, scarred formica table top in dark and dingy surroundings. We won't be back. On a personal note and not directly the fault of the restauarant, two tables over was a loudmouth taking and making calls on his cell phone; we unintentionally learned more about this boor's life than we know about our friends'! Please everyone, don't use your cell phones in a restaurant, especially during dinner.

“Oyster lover's paradise.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

Ludwig’s Oyster Bar & Grill is known for their large selection of fresh oysters. Wednesday and Thursday nights they have about 10 variety of oysters for a buck a shuck and another 10+/- for two bucks. The oysters are consistently top quality and well presented on a bed of crushed ice. The beer selection is very nice with about 5 micro brews or imports on tap. The food other than oysters is of marginal. If you are looking for a meal other than oyster's there are many other restaurants which would be a better choice. The clientele is mostly locals and friendly as is the wait staff.
