“Serene surroundings, hospitable hosts”
Reviewed May 17, 2012

This is a charming farmhouse run by a nice couple who are friendly without being overly chatty. Their enormous 'backyard' is beautiful, full of little nooks where it's wonderful to sit and read a book. The one drawback is the isolated location. It's hard to find in the dark, and Google doesn't give good directions. Also, the options for dining nearby are limited - plan on a 10-minute drive at least. But if you're seeking peace and quiet, I recommend it.

A beautiful mountain country farm in a picturesque setting of Sullivan County. A well taken care of property. Very nice! Very clean! I would probably go there again. Our cottage was awesome.
The overall experience lacked some small, but important details. Outdoor morning temperature was 34*. No heat in the inn. Guests were commenting to each other about cold rooms. Dining room was cold. Breakfast was OK, but not great. Portions were small. They could have offered a great country breakfast. The place was a beautiful 'country' home decorated Victorian. Too formal for the setting. Kim, the hostess, could have been more 'country' and relaxed. Overpriced. $149.00/night for a $89.00/night experience.
We have stayed at 35 different B&Bs and at least 6 of them more than once. We give Morgan Century a 6 out of a possible 10. They are a few small, but 'important' details away from a 9.

MasterSteamer,

Thank you for your informative and constructive review of our property. We appreciate your honesty and hope we've rectified some of the more relevant issues you mention in your review.

I do apologize for the temperature in the dining room. We would have been happy to accommodate you by turning up the heat, had you brought this to our attention. Since your review, I've encouraged each guest to inform me of their personal comfort level. I've also apologized to the other members of your breakfast party as they are repeat guests and certainly would have brought this to our attention if they were uncomfortable.

Our three-course breakfast is generally considered "too much food" by other guests. You fail to mention that you and your wife declined the second course option because the casserole included meat. Therefore, we prepared a separate offering for you featuring scrambled eggs and muffins. Since your review, I've reconsidered our offerings for guests who eschew meat and have "beefed up" our vegetarian offerings. I believe you'll be happy with the result.

Regarding the price of the cottage, we do charge more for this outbuilding because it provides a small kitchenette w/wood stove and additional living space. Typically our rate for the cottage is $129.00 per night (based on 2 person occupancy), which is an exceptional rate for this region. You fail to mention that your son accompanied you and your wife. It is standard in our industry to charge a fee for additional guests. As stated on our website, we charge $20.00 per person over and above the 2 person occupancy.

We do hope you and your family will visit us again. We would welcome the opportunity to show you that we've taken your comments and suggestions seriously and have acted upon them.

Thank you,
Kim Florentine

My husband and I were looking for a secluded hideaway for our anniversary. We wanted someplace where we could avoid phone calls, emails, traffic, noise, and the hustle-bustle of our everyday lives. We found the serenity we had hoped for and more at Morgan Century Farm, located just minutes from historic Eagles Mere Village.
Morgan Century Farm has been in the host's family for generations. Kim, the daughter of owner Ken Florentine, was our main contact, and she made everything from setting up our reservations, to finding excellent dining suggestions, to purchasing a gallon of local Pennsylvania Maple Syrup easy.

The family has obviously put love and careful attention into renovating the farm into a lovely B&B. We stayed in The Highlander Barn Hayloft, a steal at $139. Our room was actually a cozy suite in the barn loft that overlooked a pristine creek. We felt right at home as soon as we walked in the door. An electric fireplace warmed us on a rainy day, and we listened to the crystal clear country night music of frogs and breeze at night. Small details, like the popcorn, hot chocolate and biscotti placed in a basket on the kitchenette counter, made us feel welcome immediately. The room was the perfect blend of comfort and country rustic. Every detail had been attended to.

Morgan Century Farm is in an ideal location for outdoors enthusiasts or those of us who just like sedate country drives. The winding country roads, forested mountains, and crystal streams are idyllic. World's End State Park and the Loyalsock Trail are just minutes away and offer incredible hiking or creek swimming. Just a bit further down the road is the historic village of Eagles Mere with quaint gift shops, a museum, and lake. We had the best intentions of hiking, swimming, and biking, but the restful allure of our room actually tempted us to spend one afternoon just reading and napping. We loved it!

Kim also gave us some great dining recommendations. She urged us to try Eagle's Mere Inn for their famous five-course dinner, which we did and could not have been more satisfied. The crab cakes were some of the best I've ever had. And the croissant cherry white chocolate bread pudding? Divine. I wish I could have had seconds. Our breakfast at Morgan Century Farm was extremely satisfying as well. The delicious three courses (although I think with all the breads and candied fruits that were offered, three is a conservative count) of homemade applesauce, german pancake, and homemade banana-apricot bread held us at the table chatting with other guests long after our last cup of coffee had cooled.

We will absolutely return to Morgan Century Farm for more R&R. The only question is when. I hope it's sooner rather than later!
