“wonderful stay. great food and beautiful rooms.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We did a lot of homework when we were planning our stay to PA. Because some other reviews mentioned noise in the main house, we opted to spend a bit extra to stay in a suite. Often you'll see photos on a website and then arrive and are disappointed. Not here. What a nice room. Beautiful hottub with a skylight. Lovely fireplace. Very comfortable bed. And SO quiet. We ate in the dining room one night and it was incredible. The use of farm to table at it's best. The rates are not cheap, however it was worth it. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stopped in last night to see if they had any availability. They have no phones cable of internet, but they have lights, heat and hot water. We stayed, and the staff is doing a great job making the most of their situation. Thanks for a great stay. Stop on in, if you still do not have lights, they may be able to put you up too.

I use to go to college at Penn State berks no more than 30 minutes from here and I never knew about this place. Luckily our gay friends (gay friendly hotels are hard to come by. So this place was way up they're list) had stayed here and raved about it. They undersold it. They had a wonderful time, but I was pleasantly surprised with this place.

Breakfast was amazing and, in my opinion, the hidden gem of the experience. Just about everything on the menu (both breakfast and dinner is farm to table as Glassbern is a working farm) and that shines in the breakfast. Never tasted eggs so fresh. The dining room, as with all room, is a repurposed barn and the architecture is exquisite.

The room was equally as astonishing. We stayed in "pack house upper room." It was room number 73. As we entered an amazing vaulted ceiling awaited us up a small. Flight of about 13 stairs. There was another entrance out back as well. In room fireplace and hot tub were awesome bonuses. Shower and bathroom was clean and in perfect working order. You really get what you're paying for. Only complaint would be cobwebs in some ceiling corners, but really, they're 10+ feet above the floor. If that bothers you, don't stay in a repurposed barn. This is light years beyond any motel you can even find.

Dinner was excellent although a bit overpriced for the limited menu. Food was excellent and would recommend it to anyone not a picky eater. Still, 12-15 items with some flexibility is not bad considering the farm-to-table motif.

Got a couples massage and while the massage was excellent, flexibility was necessary with the times. Booked 3 weeks in advance and found out the day we got there there was a problem procuring 2 masseuses for our appointment. While my GF and I were more than happy to move our appointment from 3 to noon that same day to accommodate, be aware that this might be something you will need to work with if you choose to book this particular R&R activity.

The area affords you scenic Appalachian views, above average wineries (we're talking PA here people not Finger Lakes or Napa), and a multitude of activities. Side note, Jim Thorpe is most definitely NOT worth the drive. Overcrowded, overpriced, and not worth the trek. Try the water gap for hiking or another small town.

Overall, I would return to Glassbern and I feel in a group, it would be even more fun, despite the VERY quiet cabins.

Overall grade: B+

We had very high hopes for our Anniversary stay at the Glasbern Inn and we were not disappointed. It was everything I thought it would be and more. The Glasbern consists of many rustic type buildings with lot's of glass, stone and wood. We chose the Gate House and it was perfect and cozy. We had the sleep number bed which was so comfortable and also a wood burning fireplace and a huge 2 person jacuzzi in the upper loft. We spent the day walking the trails and admiring the fall foilage and farm animals. We booked a "midweek" package which included a 3 course dinner at the fancy Glasbern restaurant. Most all of the food on the menu are items that come from the farm. The food was delicious but I have to agree with others about the very small portion sizes. Included in the stay there is a full cooked breakfast in the morning. You get to chose off of a full menu of items, this was also very good. I should also say service at both the reception area and the restaurant were exceptional. I will no doubt return to this gem of a place.

Room Tip: They offer Midweek packages that includes a 3 course meal , it is a great deal.

Beautiful setting for excellent restaurant and cozy comfortable rooms. Really enjoyed walking around the farm. Staff was very friendly. Comfortable beds. Quiet. Clearly they have many many events here. There was not one during our stay.

Room Tip: Our room had a whirlpool in the bedroom. Didn't use it. Would rather have a room with a sittin...

Beautiful surroundings, well worn walking paths, restful rooms. Food is grown or raised on the estate. An excellent choice for a weekend away or a break from the usual business hotels. My only complaint was the service at dinner. There were 5 tables occupied yet the waitress took quite long between servings. Her absence caused the dinner service to go on for three hours, which seemed a little excessive to us. I would suggest that the serving staff be trained to look for cues from their clients and respond accordingly.

My wife and I went back in time. This place is a hidden gem. Set on a farm with barns from the 18th century that have been meticulously restored and turned into hotel rooms, the lodging is only a third of the story. Another third is the great breakfast that comes with the room prepared with eggs, ham and other treats from the farm! And the last third? More than six miles of trails around the farm's ponds, fields and barns. If you HAVE to go back to the 18th Century, you might as well do it in comfort and with great food.

Room Tip: We were "upgraded" to the Pack House. Try to get one of these spectacular rooms.

Thank you for the lovely review. Glasbern is so fortunate to have been discovered, built and named by Al and Beth Granger.. Without all of their hard work and dedication to the property it would have never been what it is today. We are so happy you enjoyed their beautiful creation and we hope to see you in the future.
