“Ancient menu”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

What they cook, they cook well; their steak and seafood dishes are quite nice. BUT---the menu is straight out of the 1960s; if you're looking for a healthy option, they don't even have as much as a pasta dish that could be ordered without meat. They say they have vegetarian options available, but what you get if you ask for it is whatever veggies they have on hand, steamed and pretty well unseasoned, without a starch (it has not occurred to them that potatoes are vegetables).

So--if you eat a lot of meat and potatoes, it's pretty good. If you don't, it's a relic of yesteryear/

“Food was good - Service was not”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Food was decent. Little pricey for some of the items (12 bucks for a small bowl of kids pasta?!? Even pure Italian restaurants don't charge that) and they need a clue on how to serve wine...two people at our party of 13 ordered red – with came out as cold as the white wines that were also ordered...the server said, "We had an opened bottle of red from the other day that we left in the fridge"...so...we got a glass of old red wine that was just sitting in a fridge to "keep it fresh"? Two Major restarant faus pax here Ship Inn - shame! Especially if this is your first impression of any restaurant... Fortunately they offered to get new glasses with "fresh" wine served at the proper temperature...which is the least that can be done…especially when you're basically paying for the entire bottle with each 9 dollar glass...This dropped them down to 3 out of 5 since I've never had that happen at any other "nice" restaurants. Also, someone at the table asked for more bread and they brought out just one role...didn't even bring a basket to offer to the rest of the table...again...how stingy can they be?
This restaurant has potential, but, in the day and age of excellent customer service being a basic differentiator these days, this place will unfortunately go nowhere fast. A simple course in “How to be a Great Waiter 101” would be a start….not to mention they need a more inconspicuous area for the wait staff to smoke…we saw ours in the back having a cigarette as we were leaving…which is likely where they were when we were waiting for them a few times during the meal…classy…

“dirty, low grade food”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Will NEVER eat here again. Stay away. Food I would not give to a dog. Family VERY disappointed in the Ships Inn. A take out pizza would have been a 100% inprovement.

“Average food in a beautiful old building”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We dined hear late one Saturday evening and the food was ok, nothing to rave about. For the price and the atmosphere we were anticipating a very tasty meal. So the food was underwhelming. I do not think we will go back.
