“The tropics come to Erie!”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

As mentioned previously, the BYOB nature of the place is a plus! We'd stopped for a round or two at Lavery's brewpub and brought a couple of growlers with us to the restaurant. Our waitress just smiled and rushed to bring us some glasses, which was a good thing because the only negative I have about the entire evening was that the timing was a bit slow.

There was a very long wait, maybe 15-20 minutes, between those first glasses and when she returned to tell us about today's specials and gently but good naturedly guide us with excellent advice and un-pushy recommendations, all of which we ignored, but only because there were so many intriguing menu items. We all regret that none of us ordered the Oxtails, so we'll save them for next time.

My shrimp with grits was delicious and the large grits were a welcome textural and flavoral departure from boring old rice. The plentiful grilled (I think) shrimp and andouille in a thin tasty sauce, with just the right trace of spice to warm your tongue, when stirred into the grits, made every mouthfull an adventure. My friends all enjoyed the fried chicken and, lest I spoil the surprise... whole fish red snapper dinners. Yes, it was a whole fish, gutted but head and skin on, bones and all, and it was delicious and a pleasure to pick through to get the best nuggets.

The room reminded me of a college cafeteria, plain carpet, walls adorned with new age versions of 60's vintage feel good mantras, and an easy laid back pseudo tropical vibe. There were 2 walls of windows which, unfortunately we couldn't see out of through the downpouring rain, so I can't comment on the view. On this Saturday night the vibe was warm and friendly, not too noisy, but with plenty of laughter., which mostly came from us as our friendly waitress, Shay, did her best to find us amusing and to her credit, fed fire with more fire, to our increasing delight.

All told, a very pleasant evening with delicious, Carribean inspired food and atmosphere, an easy vibe sure to please most everyone. A rare treasure in Erie.

“Nice Addition to Erie Dining Scene”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

The food was well prepared and very tasty. The staff was efficient and friendly and sitting by the window looking out made for a nice atmosphere. Had a sauteed calamari which was the best I've had in quite a while with a very nice sauce. BYOB is a plus also. Highly recommend.

“BYOB makes up for the shortfalls”
Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

We ordered shrimp as a starter. It was ok. Dinners came. Mine tasted like bland rice and sausage with bland shrimp. The desserts were amazing though. And so was the fact that you can bring you own alcohol.. I will return but really only for the BYOB and they amazing pecan dessert.

“Delightful surprise”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

We have been there several times and have not been disappointed. The waitress was attentive and friendly, and the service was great. We have had the southern fried chicken, steak special, and my favorite the crab cakes. All were delectably prepared and presented. Luckily we split the dessert because we were very satisfied with the portions. They do not have a liquor license at this time so you must BYOB. It is a great place to go as a couple or a group, (they have a seperate room for larger groups). It is wise to make reservations. Also, I do not think younger children would enjoy the restaurant due to the offerings, and atmosphere, it is low key, but might be ok with the group setting area. It is low country, or southern cooking stepped up a notch!

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere was off the chain. The waitress was good and very friendly. The food...omg...was so good I will definitely be back, it was great and next time I will bring a bottle of wine.
