We happened to be visiting Erie twice in the last two weeks and went to Alto Cucina both times. The first time, our service was wonderful, which was a little surprising given the reviews on this site. The second time, though, the reviews were much closer to being right - service was very slow, especially when we were trying to get our check and leave.

My main complaint with the menu was that I found it very difficult to find something healthy to eat.

That said, my dinners were both quite good. My husband really liked the spaghetti and meatballs as well, and had it both times we were there.

This was our first visit to Alto Cucina and we would definitely return to celebrate a special occasion or to treat ourselves to a fine Italian dining experience. We had soup, salad, a veal dish with peppers, and the beef ravioli with meatballs and the brownie dessert. All were presented well and very fresh and tasty. Good service and a unique atmosphere that feels more like a house.

While trying to figure out where we should go to dinner on New Years Eve a friend suggested Alto Cucina. After checking out the website we decided that it looked like a fancier place that wouldn't be completely outrageous in price. We were impressed as soon as we pulled up the driveway. The restaurant looks just like someone's personal home. The place was decorated for Christmas and it was a lovely atmosphere. Our table was in a room that looked like we could have been sitting in someone's private den. We were surrounded by window benches, books, pottery, vases and shutters. They also had a live musician playing the acoustic guitar. It was a perfect atmosphere for New Years Eve. Our server was extremely kind and helpful and everything came out really fast. Most of us ended up getting the special, which was prime rib with roasted potatoes and asparagus. Beforehand we had Ceasar salads and tomato bisque. Everything was delicious right down to the Italian bread and oil they leave on the table. Though it is a little pricey for an average dinner, it is definitely a place that I would keep in mind for special occasions!

Probably best Italian in Erie, Nice traditional atmosphere, good service, but for Erie, worth the price you pay

We started with the assorted cheeses and cold meats, nice selection and a large portion. We both selected the special of ravioli shrimp and scallops. It was excellent and served with a tasty sauce. The service was very prompt – almost too fast, as we were in and out within an hour. We had made reservations and were seated upstairs where the atmosphere was a bit dead. If I were to go back again, I would request seating downstairs which was more intimate and cozy.
