We've just returned from our 6th annual weekend at Raystown, and we do love it. We choose the Maple cabins, as they are perched on a cliff, and while they have a lovely (if filtered by trees) view, they are away from the noise and activity of the lake-front campgrounds and cabins, which always seem to have groups of younger and possibly more night-owl residents. Every year we come with another family and rent side-by-side cabins. The cabins are perfect for us, with one room having 2 double beds and the other having 2 sets of bunks. Main room has large table, air conditioning, full kitchen facilities -- my kind of "camping"! No, it's not a 5-star hotel and that's just fine. Our only complaint is that you must rent either a weekend (Friday and Saturday nights, checking out by 11:00 Sunday) or for a full week. Turns out it's a lot of work to pack linens, towels, food, etc. for 2 days... the amount of work would be exactly the same if you were coming for 3 or 4 nights, but this isn't an option and so if you can't do a full week, it's a lot of effort for a brief weekend... but nowhere near the agony of actual camping!
The lake itself is lovely and has a number of coves good for fishing, tubing, etc. Resort grounds are well maintained and attractive. The restaurant is fine -- not fabulous but acceptable and the people are all very friendly. The place recently underwent a change of affiliation -- apparently not actually bought out, but somehow now falling under the umbrella of "RVC Outdoor Destinations." Hope it doesn't change it, because this truly is an affordable, low-key gem.
