“Charming and welcoming”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

This 18-room inn has the charm and warmth of a smaller B & B, but also the expanded services( room availability last minute, always open ( no random closures orf failures to answer the phones as with some small b & b's) and extended front desk hours to 10 pm. The close proximity to Lafayette college on a picturesque hill made for a perfect stopover. We were given great recommendations for dinner--and there is a wide variety of dining choices in Easton from the supercasual to bars and gastropubs and finer dining. The inn also has a variety of roomsa nd configurations to choose from..."basic" 3rd floor walkups with dormer windows and coved ceilings, deluxe suites, rooms with kitchenettes etc. Prices range accordingly. We chose a 3 rd floor basic room and it wmas basic, but had newer Tuscan yellow paint, colonial green trim, poppy and butterfly patterned bedspread and a small windowseat. A skylight assured waking with the first rays of light, and commuter traffic was audible on the main street thoroughfare, but it was a comfortable stay, and we had to get up early anyway. Granted, this 3rd floor was a bit plainer than the other levels, interior carpet showed staining so it could use a bit of sprucing up. The common areas of the inn are cozy and inviting, especially the living room and windowed breakfast area. Breakfast offered many choices: yogurt, fresh fruit, nut bread, bagels and toast, cereal...and then the main course choices of Belgian waffles or an omelette. The made to order omelette came out in a blink and was really wonderful with fresh veggies and cheese.

If you are in the Lehigh Valley (Easton specifically) and want to stay in a charming and welcoming B&B, then try the Lafayette Inn. An old fraternity house that was renovated is comfortable and provides you with a warm environment. A customized breakfast, wine, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, home baked banana bread, and cheese "support" you throughout the day. The beds are comfortable and the rooms while "period" are spacious. It is an easy walk to Lafayette College's campus and athletic facilities so if you are attending a football or basketball game --stay here. It is also next door to the infamous College Hill Tavern where you can feel at home with a long bar and friendly local crowd.

The drawbacks: the in-room entertainment system is really narrow and meager but it is a B&B after all. The bathrooms are fine but not elegant or elaborate yet they do give you standard amenities....including bottled water.

The proprietors are very friendly and will respond to your needs. The rates....very fair and reasonable.

If you are staying in Easton by choice or necessity, stay here...it is better than your other options.

Room Tip: Ask for room 23 or 24 if you can. No fitness center or restaurant with the exception of the breakfas...

Green Features: They are very environmentally conscious especially regarding the bathrooms.

My wife and I stayed their last weekend. We planned to go to the hot air balloon festival in Readington NJ and visit some of the local wineries. The accommodations were excellent, clean well kept room. Staff was very attentive and gave us great restaurant suggestions. Breakfast were very good. If you like B&B's you will want to put The Lafayette on your list.

Green Features: water conservation and recycling practices are on top of their list

My wife learned that she had to fix a grant application she had emailed earlier. The lap top they loaned didn't work (wrong program) so the owner let her use the office computer. Much appreciated. Good service; excellent breakfasts in a nice dining area. Beds were comfortable. Near Lafayette College. Easton is a neat town to drive around, and this inn is a fine place to stay.

My husband and I spent the 4th of July long weekend at the Lafayette Inn in Easton. This is part of an annual short vacation that we so enjoy.

Once again we enjoyed the hospitality and great breakfasts that the Inn offers. The staff is friendly and helpful and our hosts accomodated every need.

We were happy to find that downtown Easton has opened new restaurants and shops since our visit last year and that our old favorites were going strong as well.

It happend to be Heritage weekend in Easton and we were impressed by how much the Saturday farm market has grown and the variety of goods offered.

We look forward to returning next July to stay in comfort with our "friends" at the Lafayette Inn.

As 300 year old Inns go, this inn is excellent. However, despite many, many obvious renovations, new appointments, and furnishings, there are some drawbacks. Third floor walk-up is tough, so don't book one of those rooms if you are in the least physically limited. Room 31 had some serious water leak in the past, and attendant mold in the corner between the wall and shower. Otherwise, the room was immaculately clean. Room was exceptionally quiet, and the bed was dream worthy. Shower was great. Toilet paper left a lot to be desired, pun intended. Breakfast reception and food was superb and the best experienced on this 14 day journey in the Northeast. There are several excellent restaurants nearby, and the one reception recommended was superb plus within walking distance.

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor if you have physical problems. Otherwise, it is fine.

Just spent 2 nights at the Lafayette Inn with my daughter and sister. 5 years ago we took over the Inn for a family wedding and rehearsal dinner. We love everything about the Inn and we return at least once a year. The breakfasts are wonderful, the rooms cozy, the living room beautiful with cake and drinks at all hours. There is just something about how you are welcomed and treated during your stay that makes us want to escape to Easton from DC! We spent the day in Bethlehem, PA with the Moravian Bookstore, McCarthy's tea house and a fantastic knitting store. And don't forget American Hairlines where you can schedule all kinds of spa services. And great restaurants in Easton - we love the River Grill. Sigh - we want to schedule our return visit!
