My wife and I usually drive 2 1/2 hours to Lancaster for our Anniversary getaway. Shady Maple has become a must while we are in the area. However, we are planning a day trip later this month with some extended family mainly to eat at Shady Maple. Let's be honest, it's a buffet and there are going to be times when the food isn't the best. But, of the times (4 I think) I've been there, I've only had about 3 things that wasn't above average. For $20/person, you can get steak, shrimp, pork chops, roast beef, sausages, pizza (for the kids), fish, all the sides, salad bar, bread bar and desserts out the wazzoo! Of all the places I've ate, Shady Maple is second on the list behind Carolina Roadhouse in Myrtle Beach.

If you want to eat a lot of food - this is the place to go. A great place to take out of town families as there is a selection of food for even the pickiest eater.

This is the highest quality, best tasting, freshest food you will get from a buffet restaurant EVER. The selection is incredible, with all of the staples plus some Pennsylvania Dutch specialties. The desserts weren't that boxed Jello stuff you get at other buffets. These are genuine, knock your socks off, make you cry they are so good desserts.

The price may seem high until you see that the gratuity is included, and believe me, it is worth it. The only downfall of this place may be its popularity - on a weekend night, expect to stand in line at least 30 minutes for a table. If it is a weekend night around the holidays, arrive early to get in line or will be an hour wait. However, that is average for GOOD restaurants. If no one else wants to eat there, why would you???

So, if you visit Lancaster County Amish country, your visit is not complete unless you go to Shady Maple Smorgasbord! Also, check out the gift shop downstairs for "Amish-ish" souveniers, and if you are local, check out the supermarket next door for the best meat and produce on the East Coast.

Excellent restaurant and the best buffet that I ever ate at! So much choice of food and everything was hot and very good. We got there after 11am for lunch buffet and then the buses started rolling in and by noon it was very busy. The gift shop downstairs is huge and had a variety of items including alot of NFL and MLB stuff. Very enjoyable time, just go hungry!

Great selection. have gone for breakfast and dinner. Personally thinnk breakfast is a better value, but dinner was good too... ridicoulous slection of items to choose from to eat.. crazy big and nicely cleaned bathrooms. Outrageously large gift ship on lower level.
Dining room is spotlessly clean, youre going to have a wait no matter when you come.. if youre there prior to 7AM on weekends, you'll miss the crushing crowds that pour in starting around 8AM... serously, you will NOT beleive how crowded it gets... Go .. enjoy.. experience a little slice of the 'simpler life" .. try some food you wouldnt normally eat.. SCRAPPLE anyone ? yum..
