Just returned from a "girl's weekend" with my sister, friend and their grown daughters. We picked Doylestown as a charming town with lots to do and it and the surrounding area didn't disappoint.

First the pros of Hargrave House: location is great, walk out the door to shops and restaurants; beds are super comfortable although not sure they were all kings as advertised; great having the Keurigs in the rooms and mini frigs; very clean.

Cons: breakfast is not what I would expect from a high quality B&B, yes they make eggs to order or French toast but absolutely no baked goods like muffins, etc. breads were all prepackaged and when oatmeal was offered, at first they were going to use instant packs! Not what I have ever experienced at a nice B&B. In fact everything was from Costco. Wonder why they don't pick up some local baked goods from the bakery two doors away?

No comfortable sitting areas anywhere in the rooms or in a common area.

One of our group tried to take a shower one morning and there was no hot water. The response was somewhat incredulous as though my friend had to be mistaken and no real apologies made.

So overall, it is a relatively nice B&B but not sure it lives up to its reputation.

Our son and his fiance found this charming place while venue searching for their September 2012 wedding. Once they decided on a Doylestown wedding, we booked all 7 rooms at The Old Hargrave House, splitting the rooms between both families and the bride and groom. This was a perfect environment for the families, both adults and children, to connect in a very personal and relaxed way. The breakfasts were fantastic, the rooms were large enough to accommodate both adults and children and very clean. The location was perfect for the various wedding weekend activities centered in beautiful downtown Doylestown. We were able to walk to the rehearsal dinner restaurant and more importantly walk back to the Inn following the wedding After Party at a local pub. We were able to walk around Doylestown and enjoy all that it offers in the periods of down time. The children also loved to connect and play in the lovely court yard.

Lorna and Perry were perfect hosts. Anything we requested was quickly accommodated. I asked Lorna if there was any way we could invite other family and friends who were staying in the area to come to The Old Hargrave House the morning after the wedding to eat and mingle with the families. She not only said of course, but she began to give me food options and made other suggestions. It worked out perfectly and everyone who came by that morning enjoyed a great breakfast and had a nice relaxing morning mingling with both families and our son and his new wife.

Both families had such a great time we were talking about doing it again next year on the anniversary. If you have the opportunity I encourage you to visit this lovely Inn and experience the wonderful hospitality of Lorna and Perry.

I found Hargrave House on tripadvisor when I was checking out lodging in the Doylestown area for a girls weekend away, and we were certainly not disappointed! We were warmly greeted by Sandy, and she explained all of the ins and outs of the place. She recommended a fabulous place for dinner (Paganini's) and cooked us a great breakfast to order the next morning. Lorna greeted us on Sunday morning for another great breakfast and made us chuckle with her stories. The place was charming and the beds were divine! The Keurig machines in the rooms were greatly appreciated by all of us, and the adjoining rooms were perfect for the four of us and our mah jongg game (we also appreciated the card table that just appeared) and the place had a very homey feel. We will definitely stay here again for a girls weekend, and I'll even bring my husband for a weekend getaway.

Room Tip: The Patio and Garden rooms are adjoining, so great for friends.

Lorna is a fabulous raconteur, but with that lovely British reserve, doesn't give up the stories unless you ask for them. She metes them out, so that I never had that "uh oh" feeling I can get around garrulous innkeepers. She just gets it. Every other guest who came in for breakfast this morning is the type I'd want to have as neighbors, and most were repeat guests. Cyclists and solo travelers: oh such comfort here. A truly good jacuzzi in 5 of the 7 rooms, an intelligent chat if you want it, and for me, pitch perfect in atmosphere: not haughty nor cloying country motif, but quietly and elegantly welcoming. A real bargain. Lorna the linchpin.

When we decided to meet our friends from Philadelphia for a weekend in Doylestown, we wanted to be within walking distance of the Mercer Museum and the James Michener Museum. So the Hargrave House certainly fit the bill. The original part of the building is from the early 1800s, where we enjoyed a delicious customed-ordered breakfast in a homey room with wide-planked floors and a lovely fireplace. Our bedrooms were in the new part of the building which was newly renovated. They had all the amenities one could want, including complimentary snacks, HDTV and a jacuzzi, of all things. Another feature we enjoyed was the little patio on the side of the building with lots of cheerful flowers. Lorna, the innkeeper, was the perfect hostess and provided helpful information to enhance our stay in town.

The Hargrave House seemed an excellent choice as we were attending the Burpee's seed company's (10 minutes away from downtown Doylestown) agriculture open house.
It is centrally located. All boutiques in this historic town were within walking distance as well as the over 50 restaurants. Needless to say, Lorna made our stay more than what we had expected , her charm and attention to details made our stay, albeit brief, memorable.

I used tripadvisor to help plan our 10th anniversary. The Hargrave House looked like a perfect spot to spend the night. We had the whole upstairs to our selves this night in the Doylestown Suite. The innkeeper Lorna was fabulous our entire stay. Although we live in the area, she provided an experience that made us appreciate the history in this area. Lorna was gracious the minute we arrived, giving us turn down service and a tour of the property.

The Doylestown Suite was a great room. It had everything for a romantic stay including a fireplace, jacizzi, incredibly comfortable bed, Vizio HD TV and a mini bar that included snacks, fridge, water bottles and K-Cups. I know they have internet access, but we didn’t need it. The entire suite was clean and cozy with lots of room.

The breakfast was made to order and delicious in the historic dining room. There was plenty of orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit with vanilla yogurt and whole grain breads when waiting for our order. We gave high compliments to the chef for the omelet and poached eggs. Again, Lorna provided great service and conversation at breakfast.

The Hargrave House is in a perfect location. Everything in town is within walking distance. We’ve been to several nice restaurants in Doylestown, but the best for this occasion was Honey. It’s a truly unique experience that is a must to try at least once. We may make Hargrave House an annual anniversary stop. It was that good. Thanks for the memorable evening.
