Hominy Ridge Lodge and Cabins
Reviewed April 4, 2011

This is not our first stay at Hominy Ridge, and won't be our last. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, and the owners are great!! We have been going there for the last few years and the atmosphere is great for relaxing and unwinding. Each time we visit, we are always greeted with a smile and they are always there when we need them. The upgrades that the owners are making are very evident as we always stay in the same cabin. We don't get to go on vacation very often, but when we do, this place makes you feel at home and relaxed. As I said.... we will definately go back !!

Traveled from Cary, NC and was ready to relax upon arrival. Great location and if you just want to relax, it is perfect location and if you want to stay active with all that Cook Forest has to offer, this is the place. The play area was a hit with the kids....Hope to be back soon.

Flew from Orlando for family reunion. Stress meter maxed out. Nice cozy place in cooks forest. In the middle of everything. Horseback riding, swimming, hunting, fishing. Cabins are comfortable, and have a nutural rustic feel. Enjoyed campfires every night with entire family 30+. Owners are attentive to your needs, when asked, otherwise leave you to your vacation. Stress meter was back to normal when we left.

I loved the atmosphere of the area. Every cabin has its own place for a campfire and there are plenty of outdoor activities to do in the area. There is also a small convenience store in the lodge for things you may have forgotten. I overall enjoyed my stay, and I loved the rustic atmosphere of camping in the woods.

I have stayed with Paula and Andy numerous times over the 5+ years they have owned Hominy Ridge. The improvements they have made over the years are quite evident if you have been a loyal renter. Sure, over time things wear and break down especially when you have those using them who have no respect for others' property. Treat things as if they were your own and use them for the purpose for which they were intended.
Yes, you are on well water. And sometimes it may have an odor. Take drinking water. I do. Or buy it in the well stocked, on-premises store. In times of drought you must conserve or be without. Common sense if you ask me. If more people would use this gift God gave them there would not be a need for the numerous signs.
Clean up after yourself just as you would at home. Why not? You are staying there. Keep things neat and tidy. Would you put YOUR dishes away dirty? I think not. They do not have a maid service. THEY are the maid service.
Cook Forest is a great place. Lots to do and see. If you like the outdoors, walks in the woods, outdoor fires etc, this is the place to be.
Paula and Andy are great hosts and are only trying to protect their property and themselves.

OK a lot of reviews about here have been bad and I think those people may have wanted too much. I have stayed in a tent in the woods up to a five star resort on the beaches of Hawaii. This is not a five star resort its a nice cozy cabin. We stayed in cabin six and it seemed to be newer. The furnishings were a little worn but perfectly usable and clean. The signs everywhere in the cabin is a little tacky but should everyone run out of water because one person didn't know or didn't care that its well water and not city. They should state that it is well water, we found out through the reviews, as you just did, so we took a three gallon jug for cooking and drinking and had no problems. It had a nice wood finish through the whole cabin and the fireplace was beautiful at night with the lights out. As far as people saying they felt a constant eye on them, we were not bothered in any way the whole weekend. In summary its not far in the woods but still quite, cabin is very nice, decor is average, take water, just a nice little cabin to relax and have a little time away with you spouse.

Hominy Ridge was a big disappointment... I had stayed there once before and it was wonderful. I heard that there are new owners. I don't even know where to begin. The $250.00 security deposit is a joke. The cabin was so dirty and even though we would have washed dishes and pots before using, there was burned food inside of the pots. We wished we had brought our own bedding. I suggest not using any blankets in the closet. I know the well is low on water and that should have been explained when booking. Everyone smelled after taking a shower. We were told the cabin was in the woods, we were right on the highway with the sound of eighteen wheelers driving past. Final word is they should have paid us for leaving the cabin in better shape than when we checked in!

Taking a secuirty deposit is no joke. When people come in and vandalize our property, they get charged. You cant rent an apartment without putting one down. We are no different. If you damage it you pay for it. If you don't then there is no need to worry about it.
The bedding is washed between EVERY customer. I personally do it all myself.
As far as smelling after showering, there was a situation with the water having a sulfer smell. The smell had no effect on the quality of the water. It was tested and deemed very safe for drinking. That has since been remedied and there is no more smell. It has always had Culligan on it, but now it is also treated with chlorine for the sulfer smell.
