“Great place to stay when riding GAP”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

I recently stayed at here during a 3 day ride on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) with my two sons. There was a separate garage where our Bikes were locked up and the room we stayed in had 3 single beds which worked well for us. There was a large dining room were we played games in the evening with other guests. There was a large breakfast in the morning with a variety of foods to get us started on the trail.

We had not arranged a stay in the Pennsylvania Laurel Mountains area for a visit to Fallingwater, and we were lucky to stumble across this B&B situated in a former business building in downtown Connellsville. The place is spotless and beautifully appointed with some of the lovely Czech Republic glass from the attached La Boheme glass shop. The owners, Lucille and John couldn't be more gracious and friendly. And Lucille's breakfasts are to die for - crepes, a wonderful Spanish fritada, muesli, terrific coffee, and more. We hope to return soon and wish every B&B could be as lovely as this one. We're sorry we couldn't give it six stars. We won't be so generous with our fives at other places in the future. Our stay here definitely set a new standard for five's.

Lucille is a gracious and caring hostess, and the spinach omelette she served at breakfast was among the best I've had (the spinach was from her garden!). I got the French Room, which is small but cozy and has a huge bathroom. The glass/crystal shop on the first floor is awesome as well, as it has unique items I've rarely seen in "regular" stores. I learnt from Lucille's husband that they import these directly from Bohemia. For dinner, I recommend El Canela (Canelo?) which is a 5-10 minute walk into town.

We arrived covered in mud from a wet day biking. Lucy had a hose for us to clean up and a place to lock our bikes. The place is immaculately clean and comfortable! Breakfast in the morning could not have been better!

Room Tip: We had the Irish room. Very comfortable.

Clean and comfortable, close to the Great Allegheny Passage. We came in muddy and tired, and Lucille offered us a hose to clean our bikes and a locked space to store them.

Our room was modern and spacious. The bathrooms were especially nice with a really nice shower. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely stay there again.

My wife, teenage daughter, and I were guests here for three nights, June 15th through 17th, as a base to enjoy the GAP, Laurel Highlands Trail, Laurel Caverns, Ohiopyle rafting and Fallingwater. Several nice touches at the B&B made our stay very pleasant. Rooms with beautiful chandeliers and guest bathrobes, washer and dryer, and the ability to lock my bike in John's shed. Breakfast was great, with variety from day to day, shared with the other guests, mostly GAP travelers. Lucy kindly made a big bowl of oatmeal each morning, which my wife couldn't live without. If I have a complaint, it would only be with the railing from the second floor not being too handy for the mobility-challenged (me, after spraining my old man knee in Laurel Caverns). We had no problem at all with the front-of-the-building street noise that some complained about in other reviews.

We are so pleased to hear that you and your family were happy staying at our B&B. So sorry you sprained your knee. We hope it is better now. I think rest is the best cure but sometimes one doesn't always have an opportunity to rest.

What a gem! After cycling 55 miles in the rain along the Greater Allegheny Passage starting from Pittsburgh, we we thrilled to arrive at our day's destination, The Connellsville Bed and Breakfast. What a sight we must have been with our bikes and ourselves covered in a gray powdery mud. Lucy greeted us with a hose to cleaned our bikes and panniers. We stored our bikes in their garage and proceeded to our room, the Irish Room, to shower. There was a coin operated washer dryer just outside our room so we were able to wash our biking outfits. After dining at the Valley Dairy and purchasing fluids for our next day's ride at the nearby gas station, we returned to our room to have a great night's sleep.
Breakfast was well above average. Lucy had prepared a breakfast that included an egg after first verifying that we had not food restrictions. Protein is important for cycling long distance and she seemed to understand the nutritional needs of the cyclist. She could not have been a more pleasant hostess.
