We decided to try Osteria after a couple of friends told us that they enjoyed the food there about a year ago. We were told we would have to make a reservation because it gets very busy. We were seated at a table close to the fireplace, which was very nice. The hostess took our drink order and we heard her tell our server, so it was very strange that the server came back to our table to ask us again what we wanted to drink. They brought us a bread basket with very large white bread slices and frozen butter packets, which was disappointing as most restaurants give a different selection of breads and a signature dip/butter with it. I ordered the bruschetta and my boyfriend ordered the brocolli rabe with shrimp appetizer. The servings were huge - the bruschetta was on the same bread that they serve in the bread basket and was very bland. My boyfriend said that his brocolli rabe was previously frozen and not very good. For dinner, I ordered the chicken with spinach, crab and shrimp - and when I ordered it I had to show the server what it was on the menu - she must have been new. My boyfriend ordered the chicken marsala. Again, the servings were huge. My dish was ok, nothing to gush about - it was bland and the chicken seemed previously frozen. The chicken marsala was in a very thin sauce, which my boyfriend tells me it is supposed to be in a very thick sauce. I had half of mine wrapped to go, and my boyfriend had his pasta boxed. We only had 1 drink each but the ticket came to $85 - definitely not worth it. And when we left - there were only 4 other tables - so we didn't need to make that reservation. Now we are arguing as to who is going to eat the leftovers, because I don't want to and he doesn't either.

The set up in the restauarnt was a little odd in the main dining room. The hostess stand is actually in the dining area, which was a little strange and almost uncomfortable because the hostess and usually a couple other employees were just standing there kind of talking and looking at everyone and every time the phone rang you had to hear the entire conversation the hostess was having. Beyond that, the food was what I would call slightly above average. There was nothing that really stood out. The appetizer we got was mushroom and shrimp and had a very good flavor. The bread they served was ok, but it would only take the one more minute to throw the bread in the oven before serving it and it would make such a huge difference. The meals were a little salty and I got a rigatoni with fresh mozzarella and basil in a tomatoe cream sauce, not much cheese in it and very little sign of fresh basil, my husband gor linguini with clams. He said it was ok but it seemed as if they didn't rinse the clams before cooking them, he said some were over the top salty and that the dish overall had a too much salty. The cannoli we got was very good. The shell was crunchy and the filling had really good flavor. I would certainly give this restaurant another try.

I have lived in Collegeville for 15 years and have watched restaurants come and go. Osteria has been the only gem where I look forward to dining. Located off of the main strip on Germantown Pike it has atmosphere for everyone. If you want romance, ask for a table near the fireplace. If you are looking for entertainment slip over to the piano bar. The staff is always courteous and attentive. And the food... I am married to an Italian who is a wonderful cook. Needless to say we are both admitted food snobs and especially Italian food snobs. The fare at Osteria never disappoints. One menu item "must have" is the grilled calamari appetizer. It is a huge portion of grilled calamari tossed with olive oil, tomatoes and other seasonings. It is to die for. Be sure to enjoy it with their crusty Italian bread. I have had many of their pasta dishes and can't seem to pick just one to recommend. They are all good. The chicken parmesan is wonderful and you are sure to have lunch for the following day. Previous reviews posted that the clientele is older. If you are a twenty something then yes, this is correct. One of the wonderful characteristics of Osteria is that it crosses all generations. I love the fact that I could sit at the bar and discuss college life with one customer and then discuss WWll with a veteran of this war. Osteria is my first choice for a restaurant in Collegeville. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The food was good but the crowd was a bit older than us.
