This motel was perfect for our visit to the Steamtown Historic Site.
Very Clean, it must have been recently remodeled, nice people,
everything we needed near by. We always stay in "economy" motels. This was one of the best.

Wow!!!! What a surprise. This place is a hidden treasure for the price and quality. I stayed here years ago when it was called the Penn/Can and it was cheap but you got what you paid for. Now it is still very low priced and a fantastic room with a king bed that was really comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and the location is great. It's located right off either I-81 or the Pa turnpike exits. We stayed in late September so heating and A/C weren't needed as it was very cool at night and we were out during the day. Most rooms have a balconey overlooking the highway that is really relaxing. I'm actually going back to the Scranton area the weekend of 10/19 and 10/20 and will be booking this hotel as soon as I enter the review for my last stay.

Good Points

Very nice room: Older motel, but maintenance has been kept up (very clean carpets, new paint, fan works in bathroom, quiet a/c). Plenty of free parking, pretty nice décor, staff was very friendly, helpful, & professional. I wanted to pay for the hotel with traveller’s cheques, but mistakenly paid with my credit card. After voicing my mistake, the clerk reversed the charge & allowed me to pay in cash since they did not accept any cheque. He also gave great directions to the local Wal-Mart from the motel, as I needed to pick up a couple things. The hotel is located in a suburban, commercial area, so several restaurants, including fast food, are located close by.

Bad Points:

Beds are too had: although the mattresses looked fairly new, they were uncomfortably hard. My wife has a bad back & must bring foam mattress pads on all our trips. Even with her pads, her sleep was very poor and she was sore for the entire next day.

Poor continental breakfast: Very limited selection, only 2 types of cereal, only powdered coffee whitener (no creamers). Neither of us was pleased with the breakfast. I know that hotels try to keep costs down, but this was too far. If you’re looking for a breakfast, look elsewhere.

Overall, although the room looked nice & the staff courteous, our 1-day stay was not good. If you like a hard bed, then you’ll be alright. They may have softer beds, so call ahead.

Stayed at the Econo Lodge on the way home from a trip to Niagara Falls. No Reservations, 4 kids and it was a rainy day. Stopped in rented two rooms and I was extremely suprised when I opened the door. I felt like I walked into the Embassy Suites. Very nice owner. Econo lodges are usually very plain for the cheap price. This was very nice. It made a nice ending to our vacation. Thanks again to Sunny.

We stayed for two nights in July of 2007 while visiting our daughter who lives in the area. We will indeed use this motel again. It is close to Scranton and its attractions such as Steamtown, Electric City Railway, and the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. We also visited Lancaster and Gettysburg, PA during our trip and the Econo Lodges in those areas certainly were not as nice as Clarks Summit.

The room was non-smoking with a king sized bed as requested. It was very clean which is most important to us. It did have a balcony overlooking a little brook, but it also overlooked the back of a restaurant with its dumpster, but hey this is an economy motel! The continental breakfast was fairly minimal with weak coffee, juice, cereal, toast, and some commercially packaged sweet rolls, but again this is an economy motel. We did not choose to stay here because of the breakfast.

We did take advantage of the Choice Hotels rewards program which gave us a $50 gas card when collecting six stamps. As I mentioned earlier, we stayed also stayed at Econo Lodges on other nights during our vacation.

This was the best of our week's stay at motels and we will most certainly choose it again.

Spent 1 evening at Econo-Lodge, Clark's Summit, Pa. Attended Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees AAA Minor League affiliate game. Hotel was clean and altogether comfortable. Large bedroom with high vaulted ceiling. Balcony with 2 chairs. Serviceable shower/toilet (with separate sink in bedroom area) Refrigerator and microwave in room and in working order. King bed was comfy. Air conditioner worked extremely well. Hotel is off the beaten path, set back from road and QUIET. Good value for $. Nearby park with walking trail and Farmers Market (Saturdays in Summer and Fall). Continental breakfast in hotel lobby and full service restaurant 100 feet from hotel's front door. Am recommending with no hesitation. A pleasant surprise!
