Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast
Certificate of Excellence

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday at Hamanassett. We wanted to escape New York, and we needed a place to bring our French Bulldog. They welcomed our family with open arms- and our dog enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
The breakfast was wonderful- they should have a recipe page on their website so we can try and recreate these dishes at home (especially the baked pears and asparagus quiche).
The room and bathroom were clean and homey. All the extra goodies around the house (cookies, sherry, chips, drinks) add a special touch to the experience.
We would definitely recommend Hamanassett to our friends.

When we arrived we were greeted at the door by Ashley and welcomed into this bed and breakfast with a tour of the inn. Ashley pointed out the history of the inn and the special amenities she provides for all the guests. There are fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for your enjoyment, also a full guest pantry with refreshments. We discussed at breakfast the following morning was how quiet our room was, we thought that we were the only guests in the inn. The bed was so comfortable to us that it felt like we slept at home in our own bed. The breakfast was so delicious, that by itself will be worth a return trip.

My Husband and I have spent Labor Day weekend at the Hamanassett for the past 6 years in a row. Ashley and Glenn have never been nasty or rude EVER!!! They are the sweetest people I have ever met. They have become very special people to us and have an amazing Inn that is a part of History and a wonderful Experience.

Here is a little history, My brother-in-law and Sister-in-law stood at the B&B six years ago, and continues to return each year since. When they returned home after there first stay they were so happy and amazed with the place that they had recommended for us to try it out and we did, not only did we try it out we fell in LOVE with the place and have returned back every year for the past 6 years and always bringing another couple with us to share in the experience of 1800’s romance.

There are never any details that go missing, the home is immaculate, the décor makes you feel as if you’re a Victorian princess. My favorite part is the fresh baked cookies on the second floor outside the pantry, with the homemade Lemonade, MMMM delicious; they have a pantry that is fully stocked with snacks and drinks at your convenience. The rooms are always prepared, everything you may need is right there. I always feel at home. Anything you may require there help with, they are always right there with a smile!

We have recommended so many people to the B& B and we have received all amazing feed back. So many people have booked 2nd and 3rd time stays.

Ashley and Glenn, You are both truly amazing Inn Keepers with a wonderful home. Thank you for all the years of a lovely Romatnic getaway. I can’t wait until our next stay…

Your breakfast is truly something special.. and I have to tell you that the last 4 couples we have sent there wanted me to express there gratitude to you and Glenn.

With Love, Your friends that you have watched blossom into lovely adults

My husband and I always stay at Bed and Breakfast places during our frequent visits to charming small towns. We read with interest all the glowing comments as well as the negative reviews. As we check out Trip Advisor and rely on it to make decisions we decided to add our opinion. All the praises are valid on the surface - lovely residence, quiet location, lovely dining room, great area things to do, drinks and goodies in the hall, etc. The owners gave out maps and information - none of that was a problem. If that is what you're looking for in a place to stay then you will likely be happy. What is equally important for us is the general feeling we get from the owners and guests. It was interesting that a number of people staying there during our stay agreed that Glen and Ashley seemed uptight. It is apparent they are in need of a vacation themselves. It's hard to explain what this means because they are not "unpleasant", they just don't give out the sense that they enjoy being helpful and that it comes from the heart. We felt uncomfortable asking for things and when we did have any issues the responses were glib and made us feel like we are expecting too much. If there was a problem of any kind it seemed that it was either our imagination or we should just accept any issue that wasn't pleasant as part of life and it could never be something with them or the place. There is a sense when someone is doing something because they "have" to rather than because they truly enjoy helping. We received a number of border line unpleasant responses to things and again, most of the other guests staying there seemed to agree. While this might have been another time they were just too overwhelmed it seems that they are a little inconsistant in their attitude. We are giving this a neutral review because a lot depends upon what you're looking for in a place to stay or whether you get there on one of there better days.

I can only echo the comments of the last reviewer who sang her praises of the Hamanassett B&B. We just returned from a long weekend in the Brandywine Valley and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hamanassett. We have traveled extensively for the past 30 years and have stayed at many elegant properties. I would rank this one among our favorites. We were greeted by an abundantly friendly ,Glen, who showed us the beautifully appointed common rooms. Each was adorned with hand selected furniture and accessories. We then were shown to our room, Inverness, which we found to be perfect. It was quite spacious with a separate sitting area, a comfy bed, desk, and fireplace. Located on the second floor not too far from the room was a freshly baked supply of cookies. If that were not enough, the floor contained a pantry stocked with snacks and beverages. In the morning, a magnificent breakfast was served in the dining room which was also elegantly decorated. When was the last time you enjoyed your waffles and poached pear by candlelight? Glen and Ashley were the perfect hosts during our stay. They helped us map out our daily activities and happily assisted with dinner reservations. I strongly recommend this property and look forward to returning again soon.

My Husband and I were visiting from Dallas for a wedding. We met our sister & her husband from DC, who were returning for their second stay at the Hammanassett. Texas has a lot a great B&Bs, but this Bed & Breakfast is truly the best blend of the old and new. You have all the conveniences of the 20th century without ruining the old world charm of the 18th Century! The Owners/InnKeepers are FABULOUS!!! The breakfasts a culinary delight! Service was impeccable. It is fabulously clean. The Beds are heavenly (& I am pickie!), Fresh cookies out for you, along with port or sherry wine available every day! Mini Bar with all the muchies and drinks that you could want to make you feel at home (At No Extra charge like hotels!) Simply delightful!! You felt as if you were a guest in the most gracious friend's home imaginable, but they left you alone to enjoy your stay unless you needed something! They were fabulous about suggestions on restaurants, shopping, site seeing! What I can say But: THE PERFECT STAY- Simply Wonderful ! I raved about it at the wedding to lots of Philly Natives who are now are excited to come for a great weekend get away!! Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable !!

The quaint and comfortable Meadow Cottage is thoughtfully well-equipped with absolutely everything that is desired for a memorable, relaxing vacation. However, our situation was a very different type of business trip, as compared to most traveler's. Our needs were unique. We needed a quiet, spacious home-base, while we 2 couples (in the company of our mini-schnauzer), worked round-the-clock, during our daughter's Ridley Creek Wedding week. We were able to work quietly into the pre-dawn hours--baking, designing flower arrangements, and self-catering most of the rehearsal dinner and the reception's comfort station. This charming cottage is away from the main house, so we could work undisturbed and without bothering any of the other guests. The cottage's porch and large kitchen allowed us ample space and privacy. The super-comfy mattresses in each bedroom, relieved stress and provided an excellent sleep opportunity, when we could work no longer. The horses grazing, just outside the front lawn, provided soothing companionship. We took care to leave this lovely cottage, just as we had found it, since the Innkeepers are fabulous, caring people and they tend to every fine detail with such dedication. The grounds are extremely peaceful and natural. We felt that the cost of a self-assisted, 8 day stay was pretty much out of our budget; however, the Meadow Cottage at Hamanassett provided EVERYTHING we needed and more. We would not hesitate to recommend the Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast, with the Carriage House and Meadow Cottage to anyone looking for a very special escape from reality.
