Like so many other travellers with pets, we have stayed in the La Quinta chain of properties numerous times. An average we have found them to be clean, accomodating and comfortable for single nite or two.
This is a fairly new property. We arrived late, but had called ahead to say so. I had hoped for a room on the first floor - exterior access easier for dogs - but was told that wasn't possible to confirm - unclear why exactly, since the reservation was made in advance and two dogs were specified.
We chose a room with as pull out sofa for the third person in the party - she insisted she could sleep anywhere - which she obviously did - but I tried it for a few minutes and found it very uncomfortable. Certainly most kids would not have a problem, but I think many adults, would not want this experience if they could avoid it. How uncomfortable can a bed be for 8 hours - well - just something to consider.
The regular bed in the room is great. We like the m'wave and small fridge in all these places these days. We were able to take the dogs for a good long walk behind this property - around some office buildings - even late at night. The building is well lighted outside, as were the office park areas.
We were placed on the second floor after all. Close to the end of the building, but not adjacent to the dreaded stairs or housekeeping area. However, we were placed in the front of the building, and as others have mentioned - very close to the highway. We all like close highway access, but traffic noise proximity is just too close. I still wonder why La Quinta - when deciding to build this property - couldn't have opted for more soundproof windows on the front of this building! What a great sales feature that would have been!
They do offer some sort of breakfast foods, but they all seem to fall short of expectation. Coffee is merely a suggestion of the word. In fact most of the La Quinta's serving coffee should be forced to drink it everyday! Other foods are minimally ok. I have the impression that a food budget is very strict and if you arrive late in the am you are out of luck to receive anything that might have been worthwhile. This location that am had some packages of oatmeal and oj and a few pieces of fruit. Don't know if corporate La Q defines the breakfast materials or the individual property managers.
Our check out time for this location was 12 noon. We like a later timem but I didn't like being called around 11am and again about 11:30 am to inquire what our plans were. I only booked one night and had no reason to feel we needed to be harassed about our departure. Chambersburg, like so many little locations is older in parts and growing with newer venues in others. The interstate cuts right through it and while this property is convenient for highway travel there may be better alternatives around.

Room Tip: if noise is an issue specifiy a room on the back side of the property

We have been staying in La Quinta hotels exclusively for the past year because we have to travel with a cat with special dietary requirements. La Quinta's "pets welcome" policy has been great for us. However, at this particular hotel, there is a policy that the housekeeping staff is not allowed to clean the room if the pet owner is not present. Our family came back after a long hot day at Gettysburg on the 4th of July weekend to find our room completely unmade. It was then that the front desk staff person told us the policy. We had to change our plans and miss an activity we wanted to go to on the next day just to be in the room when housekeeping arrived. We've never had this problem at any other La Quinta and we've traveled, literally, across the United States with this cat. No one on the staff could explain why the housekeeping staff in Chambersburg should be afraid of a little five-pound kitty cat. I wonder why these particular employees are unable to do the job other La Quinta employees across the country are doing. They've definitely lost our business.

Our softball team choose this hotel (11 families) because the hotel was new in the area. After booking for 3 nights over Memorial Day weekend then trying to drop one night, the owner was super difficult to work with and told many of my parents that he was going to charge them anyway. The owner had no contract in place so obviously can't do this. Now a month later, I still have 2 famlies trying to sort out billing issues. Oh I had one family have to leave early because of a family emergency so he raised their rate and told them he was going to charge them for 2 nights anyway. He closed the breakfast down 1 hour early when I group was there. Owner is extremely rude and should not be in the business - money is his #1 priority - not his paying customers. We will not be returning to this hotel - nor the Best Western next door since he owns that too.

We had a girls weekend and chose this hotel. We will never stay here again and if you are a light or even a heavy sleeper forget this place. The room was right on the highway and all night it was loud traffic. We didn't sleep at all. This was on top of the noise coming from the air conditioner. We did asked to be moved but there was lack of communication with the staff as they were confused as to what we wanted. The housekeeping was very loud in the wee morning hours. We would not recommend this hotel at all. Oh and also, the swimming pool was very chilly and the lights were not on even during the times posted to be open. Very disappointed.

This hotel is right by the highway and extremely noisey. The pool was also on the chilly side, we weren't in there very long. Wouldn't recommend if you intend to sleep.
