this "other" Frank Lloyd Wright house. It was designed much later in his career than the world-famous, nearby Falling Water and gives a sense of his development. Unlike Falling Water, Wright never came on sight for the construction of this smaller, more comfy home and it feels more like a place for "real people." Kentuck Knob is well-worth a visit, if for no other reason than the fact it's another Frank Lloyd Wright creation.

“Another Frank Lloyd Wright Beauty”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Kentuck Knob is only minutes away from Fallingwater, so we did this after lunch ($20.00 entrance fee). Small groups of about 10 are taken in a jitney to the top of a small hill where the house is situated. Our guide, Josh, was knowledgable and humorous. The home is loaded with FLW chairs which I found to be quite interesting. Photographing is not allowed indoors as requested by Lord & Lady Palumbo who now own the home. I like FLW's small bedroom spaces and spacious living rooms--it makes sense. FLW has a signature tile near the front door so get a photo of that. Walk to the end of the property where there is a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.

The grounds surrounding and down to the Visitor's Center abound with ground sculptures, so don't take the jitney back down. It's a short walk down and allows one to see and photograph the sculptures--get a list of the sculptures at the Visitor's Center. There is a tiny snack bar where one could buy Hagan ice cream (Hagan was the original owner of Kentuck Knob) and a gift shop. If you want lunch, eat before you go.

“Another interesting Wright designed home!”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

We added this on to our visit to Fallingwater which is close by. The tour is very informative and about an hour long. If you like architectural design, this is quite a contrast to Fallingwater. A one level "Super Usonian" has lots of interesting features. Repeated shapes and angles, low ceilings in some spaces, some 17" hallways...lots of things to talk about. The design works with the terrain and doesn't try to conquer it. Nice gardens and patios and overall a great tour. Go and enjoy along with Fallingwater just 10 minutes away.

“Knob with a view”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Enjoyed the tour and had a knowledgeable tour guide. The setting and view is fabulous with some terrific sculpture on the property. A lot of people like this FL Wright better than Falling Water since they can envision living in the smaller scale home. It's about 6-7 miles from Falling Water so a good add-on to that trip/visit. You meet at a visitor's center/gift shop and must arrive by your appointment time. We were 5 minutes late and missed the shuttle to the site. Luckily we could fit into the next appt. but others weren't so fortunate. As I recall the price was about the same as Falling Water but all info is available easily online.

“A beautiful property”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We visited Kentuck Knob in early July, and I have to say that so far I personally like this property the best! It is a much smaller scale than Falling water, but I like the small one story style. The stones along the embankment of the house reminded me of the old world war two turrets that were on Normandy beach. The view of the mountain after the garden is breathtaking. The sculpture gardens are awesome and there are some interesting facts along the way. This is only about 15 min. or less away from Falling water. A definite must see!
