“gem of a museum”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

I have to confess that this is my very favorite museum. It is in an absolutely beautiful historic building, stunning natural setting with huge glass floor to ceiling windows facing a stream and has 3 very easy to view floors of paintings by the world famous Wyeths and a few other artists.

They have a sweet little coffee shop that has lunch and snacks and a very nice gift shop that sells kids' books(for some reason) and other art related items.

The courtyard just outside the entrance looks as if it was used for horse stalls(?) and is sometimes used for special events. The cobblestones that lead you into the museum all add to the beauty of the place.

The local canoe company drops people off outside...it creates a small town feel and a sense of pride that the Wyeths are locals and this place exists.

“Fabulous Wyeth art - three generations. Do go !!!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

I grew up here when the museum did not exist. Went to lower school with Jamie Wyeth. Net Mr. Andrew Wyeth, other son Nicky and Mrs . Betsy Wyeth. Gone 30 years - now home again.

“The museum itself is a work of art”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Brandywine River Museum was once a grist mill. The heavy stone walls and floor to ceiling class windows overlooking the Brandywine River are well worth the visit to view from inside and outside. Did I mention art? Oh yes, there are permanent exhibits of the three generations of Wyeths, NC, Andrew and Jamie. Several times a year there are new exhibits, curator talks, and courtyard events.

“A wonderful gem of a museum”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

I suppose you should have an appreciation of the Wyeth artists but it is not necessary to enjoy the display of the three talented artists and a host of others who led the way or followed after with the Brandywine school. The museum building itself is worth visiting and the collection is just the right size to enjoy in a few hours. The additional offerings include the artists studios and scenes of many paintings that can be done by a small, short bus trip. We stop with some frequency as the exhibits change and highly recommend it to visitors to the area.
