We spent the day here and enjoyed the boat tour through the cave. There were some beautiful formations and our guide was fun and informative. We had brought a picnic lunch and had an hour wait for our tour to enjoy it in the picnic area. After the cave tour we hopped abord an open air bus and did the wildlife our. Many North American Animals were on display and we got to see them all. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable.

It was raining when we visited the Penn's Cave. It sure was beautiful and the boat trip was quite informative. Once we got out of the cave, nature was covered with fog, making it quite mystic. A true enjoyable trip!

The cave was interesting. It's the third I've seen. Somewhat smaller than the others, but definitely less strenuous. The boat trip is perfect for those less able to climb through a cave environment. Only criticism is they were using gas engines. We were told that they have purchased electric and will soon be using them. Good for the cave environment and patron's breathing. The wildlife park was a pleasant surprise. The animals were the healthiest specimens I've seen in a park/zoo environment. Lots of room for the animals. Those that were confined in cages were very clean and well fed. We were lucky enough to visit just as the huge field of sunflowers, used as food for the animals, were in bloom. That sight alone made the trip worthwhile. We reached Penn's Cave by driving north on Rte 99. The view of the mountains is beautiful. Can only imagine the fall view! I may have to return in a couple of weeks to catch the autumn foliage.

After reading many positive reviews on TA, we decided to take a day trip to Penns Cave. We have visited many caves in the Shenandoah Valley but never a cave that you had to ride a boat into so we thought that would be a neat experience. The seats in the boat are hard and not comfortable, and there is little leg room. Fortunately our boat wasn't too crowded and we sat in the rear so we had a little extra room. As mentioned in other reviews, it can be hard to hear the tour guide if you are seated in the rear of the boat. The cave is kept entirely dark. The spotlight that the tour guide has is often they only light on so your visibility is restricted to what is being spotlighted. There were two times we stopped and lights were turned on that illuminated a portion of the cave. Depending on where you sit in the boat, it is often hard to see what is being spotlighted as it's difficult to turn around and see behind you. The formations in the cave weren't anything spectacular. Two sections of the cave are very narrow. If you are claustrophobic or don't like the dark, this is not for you. I think the big draw here is the fact that you ride through the cave on a boat. There is a nice gift shop and small snack bar; however, we had packed our lunch.

A surprise reservation for my husband on our 10th anniversary! Terri, who took the reservation was absolutely wonderful in booking us. Our tour guide, Bill, was fantastic! He seemed just as excited to get that amazingly loaded Jeep out there as we were! Not only do you begin at dusk through the trails, learn about some interesting history, hit up some awesome obstacles, and learn about the Jeep upgrades; you also get to witness a gorgeous sunset from the Longhorn pasture! The mountain views are superb along the way! As the sun is setting you hit the trails again-in the dark! Don't look down-you may not see the bottom off the edge! More killer obstacles in the dark and trails that disorient you make you glad you have a tour guide in charge! Whether you are an off-road enthusiast or have novice intrigue this ride takes you through it all! Chances are you will leave wanting a Jeep as great as theirs and trails just as thrilling!
