Sports bars in eastern PA are a dime a dozen, and the Blue Monkey has done little to stand out. But their atmosphere and pub fare are OK, and they have little direct competition in the Catty area. Most places nearby are absolute dives, and the Blue Monkey is not. Mostly a 20 to 30 something crowd of working class, down to earth folks, it can be tons of fun on game night. And there is always stuff to do there...shuffleboard, darts, drinking games, and they have decent specials every night of the week. Microbrews on tap are not a unique selection, but at least they have them. Staff always seems overworked. Food is decent, not great, not bad. Burgers are a bit overseasoned and they like to praise their use of crab in dips and on cheesesteaks...but I had both and wasn't impressed. Stuff tasted processed and like it sat around or was frozen.
Honestly, I only go because I live right over the bridge in Coplay, but I wouldn't make a special trip when it's identical to 99% of sports bars out there. But it's not bad, and I go about once a month.
