Market Cross has been our "go-to restaurant" in Carlisle for quite some time. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, a wonderful beer list, and some really fine dishes. The fish and chips is always a winner. I also had a great fried clam meal here just a few nights ago. My husband loves their smoked salmon BLT salad.

Warning: a reservation may be a good idea, even on week nights. Depending on specials and activities, the restaurant can get packed.

The fish and chips were even better cooked than the last time I had it here. The Stella on draft was perfect with the fish . We were there with a large car club group (my 5th time here) and service was the fastest and best yet . The waitress was very nice and helpful.

Market cross has a great selection of draft and bottled beers from micro breweries and around the world. The bar food is pretty good including buffalo wings and potato skins. They also have good hot and cold sandwiches with some good names. The dinners are not that great except for the English fare. Try the Bangers and Mash or Sheppards pie.

We decided to visit this place after touring the US Army Heritage center. We picked Market Cross to go to, as my hubby likes to try new beers and it was his birthday.
We were there at a slow time(4 p.m. on a Sat) and we were the only table of people in the larger room. Service took forever(waitress was too busy yapping to other people and answering the phone) and so did the food. Once it came it was good but the portions weren't very large for what you pay.
Hubby said the beer they make there was superb and he is really picky.
