Let me start with the positive...This is an absolutely beautiful campground. The grounds are very well kept and are in immaculate condition. The outbuildings are pristine and the pool and laundry area are as well. The maintenance and lawn care staff were very friendly. My husband and I stayed here twice. We passed through the area and stayed for two nights, then again a week later for two nights again.
They have a 'rule' that you must call if you are not going to be there by 4pm or they 'will not hold a spot for you'. We found this rule to be an added burden to an already busy day of full travel each day that we had to do this (and had never heard of it had any other campground we'd stayed at) - as we were trying to concentrate on our travel and other tasks at hand......Note - upon arrival there were many, many, many empty sites....no clue why this 'rule' exists - my guess is to make someone's job easier - certainly not the travelers.....
During our first visit - there was a seasonal camper who had removed one of the wheels from his pick up truck and was continuously pounding away working on his ball joints and tie rods. This continuous pounding went on until almost 9pm...........We woke up to it the following morning at 8am.......(not a good way to start the day - BUT we never complained.....just thought...okie dokie...)
Ok, hate to even have to talk about this but.....the office staff. I am an adult BUT - I don't feel like I should have to go someplace on vacation and have to play "kiil 'em with kindness" well....the whole time I had to deal with the office here (phone, in person, etc.) I felt that way. These women were very short, rude, and curt each time you dealt with them. Immediately at check in - it was as though you were 'interrupting'.
Maybe they have all been 'seasonal' too long and forget what it is like to travel all day and how nice it is to see a friendly smile or hear a friendly voice after a long journey - who knows....BUT you will not get that here unless the owners bring in a customer service professional to refresh this crew, or..........bring in some new blood.
(ie) On our second visit I stopped into the office for bread......when I was there I asked the women in the office about cable. On our first visit there was a cable attached to our electrical panel, when we hooked up to it we got 3 channels (it was better than nothing). When I told her that we didn't have a cable at our new site - she grunted at me and said I didn't have one at our last site either and said "it must have been an Act of God that I got it last time because we don't have cable here!"........ok......then I asked her if there was a service I could pay for to get internet....she told me it was free and how to get it. (I knew nothing about that - in our first visit I was never even informed of it) Anyway, when I walked out of the office two seasonal campers who overheard followed me to my previous site so I could prove that I had cable during my previous visit......(?) Apparently it had been previously occupied by a seasonal who never had Comcast remove the cable.........long story I know...but you get the point.
OH did I tell you that during our 2nd trip the guy doing the ball joints and tie rods had his OTHER wheel off and the pounding began again??..........I digress.....
Last story.......My husband was rinsing off our white truck (just rinsing) because in their trees there are these cherry/berry things that fall and leave a red stain when they drop - when a golf cart went by and backed up....a man was driving with a woman and she said "I work in the office and we do not allow car washing in this campground" - my husband said "I'm sorry ma'am".......her reply to that was "As of now it is TERMINATED!". Again....okie....dokie (my husband is 68 years old......do you really think it was necessary to speak to him like that.) By now we couldn't help but just laugh.
I will tell you that in the rules it does say - No washing of RV's or cars - technically a quick rinse applies too I guess. BUT - right below it, it also says..................No major vehicle repairs...........
All that said (getting off the soap box now) - if you are looking for warm and fuzzy - or, a place to just feel comfortable when you are traveling.......ehhhhh.
This place is all about the seasonal campers. Even the seasonal campers were not very friendly - We were like an intrusion........(sorry, hate to say that about other campers.) It's a sad day when people forget. We are supposed to be a community - and still are. Don't get me wrong I'm not looking 'for a new best friend'. But when I retired there's certain things and people I left 'on the job'....................sure don't want to PAY to be around that crap now that I'm retired.
But....I always do enjoy a good laugh.
