Travelodge Carlisle

First, let's clarify that this an interstate-side (I-81) motel for weary travelers on a budget. If you buy into the adage that you get what you pay for, then the Travelodge Carlisle gives you more than that. At $35 per night, it's unbeatable for an exit which is (literally) littered with similar-class motels. I spent some time there recently with a friend in a smoking room which was clean, well-lit, pleasant, fresh-smelling and spacious room.

What struck me most about this "budget" motel is how often you hear folks out in the hall running the vacuum cleaner, cleaning rooms, etc. They carpet is recently updated, and the staff regularly checks to see if you need anything. The (free) wi-fi went down on two separate occasions during the week we were there, and the manager/owner? had the Comcast guy on the spot to fix it -- worked great thereafter. Ice machine was broken, but they still provided ice in several coolers at the ice station. The help came in the room while we were gone and made it ship-shape. Very accommodating, pleasant crew. Location can't be beat, and actually sits a bit back off heavily commercial/truck-traveled thoroughfare (Rt. 11), so that's nice, too. I've been to some real dumps in touristy areas (particularly in Lancaster, PA along Rt. 30) that charge a lot more, and you wonder if they even own a vacuum. Ate at the Waffle House (love that place) as much as I could, so can't comment on the free breakfast -- but I think in general you're asking a lot if you have a discerning palate and expect to be satisfied with budget motel breakfasts.

Main downside would be that the hotels in this area literally rob you if you happen to stay here during one of the many auto shows held at the fair grounds. That same $35 room then magically transforms into $120 per night, but this motel isn't unique in that sense -- they all depend on car shows rates to make them solvent, especially given that there's a dozen motels at every exit along the "Carlisle Corridor." Can't hold that against Travelodge alone.

I'd go back in a heartbeat, and that's the highest praise I can think of for a room under $40.

My wife and I stayed overnight at the Carlisle, PA Travelodge and were very happy with our accommodations and the bargain price. We had a large room with two doublebeds, very clean throughout, with a nice view of pastureland. We had a safety deposit box, fridge, coffee-maker, ...lat-screen TV that was simple to operate, an ironing board. We had a continental breakfast which was adequate with the basics of OJ, milk, cereals, toast, bagels, etc. All for a bargain $42.00! We were so pleased that we wanted to save the management as much cost as possible by using only one bed and only one wastebasket! Mr. Falgun Gandhi, the general manager, was a genial host. A friend of ours took a single room and was also very happy with his room for $38.00. We definitely will return, when we get back to the area.

Room Tip: Clean, friendly, with all the amenities, and continental breakfast, for a superbargain price. Locat...

We stayed here one night last weekend. Between Gettysburg one day and the National Apple Festival the next, this was a great spot to stop. It was a lot cheaper than staying down in Gettysburg and still close enough to everything we wanted to see. It's right off several main highways (81 and 76) so it was great to get anywhere we wanted, but not noisy. It was also very empty, so I'm not sure what the hotel noise would have been like if there had been more people. The service was great. Check in was a breeze and he was very friendly.

I stayed with a friend and my 1 year old. The two double beds were very comfortable and the room was big enough to tuck a pack and play away so she wouldn't be easily woken up. We had more than enough room for all of our stuff; it was much bigger than I had expected.

The room was very clean when we checked in. It has a coffee maker, blow dryer and even a small fridge. The sink and tub both dripped quite a bit, but I couldn't hear it from outside of the bathroom and it didn't affect the way they worked.

Breakfast was a little small. Two cereals, bagels, fruit and donuts and maybe a few other things, but it was good food.

In the end, it wasn't the fanciest room, but I would happily stay here again. For the size, the price and the service, it was well worth it.

Room Tip: It's a ranch, so there are no stairs to worry about.

This is a utilitarian place. Great new air conditioner, windows, firm newer mattresses and a really good fridge. Set back off the road, it is very quiet. Very large rooms newer carpet. Cons: bathroom really needs upgrading, towels and bed linen need replacing as well as blankets, needs paint and a really good cleaning throughout the motel. Security: side door doesn't lock so anyone can enter and room door safety lock was broken off. Local calls are free but not in the same area code as the hotel. Nice family mgmt. Two beds paid $56 plus tax AAA.

Found this hotel to be very nice considering I was getting a comped room. I expected less, but really liked the place. It's close to everything interesting in Central Pa. area too ! Nice clean swimming pool was a extra I didn't expect either. Very clean rooms . And right off the Pa Turnpike at exit 226 ! Only 30 miles from Gettysburg too . Great area with MANY good restaurants too . Also free WI FI !
For a great stay at a low price I highly recommend this hotel. Very helpful and friendly management . Also very quiet the night I stayed there .

The travel coupon said this place was remodeled, a coat of paint in the hallway is not remodeling! Stained carpets, smelly room. Ice machine still broke. A lack of maintenance feel to the whole place.
