“Excellent Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2008

Just came home yesterday from this motel after spending an extended weekend there and must say all three of us loved it. We had an 8 year old with us who had a blast.

I checked out the Trip Advisor reviews before booking it and whil the reviews were great, we had a slight concern in regards to the dates of the reviews. It had been a while since someone had posted one but I will say they were spot on.

We loved the location of this motel. It is right on Route 340, (Old Phila Pike) in the heart of Amish country. There is an Amish farm right across the highway from this motel with cows and horses that are cool to watch right from the comfort of your room or the patio. My lone complaint; and this is far from the motel's fault, is the amount of trucks on this highway that can make your cow viewing experience a little noisy. Other than that though, no complaints.

We booked the two day package which I would highly recommend doing. It is a fantastic value for sure and we also booked an individual night as well. We had such a great time here that we stayed an extra night.

The location of this motel is outstanding. We are not fans of Route 30 and all the commercialism that has overtaken that highway. If we wanted traffic, chain restaurants and obnoxious people in a rush, we can just stay home. The Amish Country Motel is right near the Bird In Hand Farmer's Market, Kitchen Kettle Village, the Plain and Fancy restaurant, Water's Edge Mini Golf, etc. It is also only a ten or 15 minute drive to other great spots like the National Christmas Center and Dutch Wonderland.

As a guest here you are allowed to use the facilities of the Bird In Hand family Inn which has 2 great indoor pools, a nice outdoor pool, a small game room and fitness room and an awesome spa. The food here was also pretty good as well. This setup is nice because the Amish Country Motel does not have much to do on their grounds. There is a small outdoor pool and an old swingset/slide and that is about it. The Bird In Hand Family Inn is not even a mile down the road so the arrangement is very convenient.

I joined the VIP Club for this family of Inns when I left and definitely plan on going back. The location, price/value and the friendliness of the staff is unmatched as far as we were concerned. Oh yeah, there is also a small petting zoo and Buggy Rides only a few hundred feet from the Motel that the little one enjoyed over and over again.

  • Liked — Convenience, staff friendliness, location
  • Disliked — Trucks on the highway (not the motel's fault)

This little motel is a fabulous place too stay, especially when on a budget. It's kid friendly, and they offer a great package deal. The only thing is, they have only an outdoor pool...HOWEVER, as with all the Smucker properties, you can use the amenities at their other inns. We have stayed here in the early Spring and used the indoor pool at the Bird In Hand Family Inn...wonderful! They have a family suite here, and compared to other places, we find it quite reasonable. I cannot tell you how many times over the years we have stayed here and have NEVER been sorry. You will not be sorry either.

Our family spent 3 nights at the Amish Country Motel and
were very pleased with the accomodations. The location
is great-right in between Bird-in Hand village and the Country
Kettle Village. Only 15 mins to Rockvale Outlet Center.

The room was very clean , comfortable and quiet!
The property is well maintained with a pool and small
playground. Within walking distance is a nice restaurant, gift shop, petting zoo and buggy rides.

We enjoyed the pools, hot tub, playground, mini-golf etc
at the Bird in Hand Family Inn just down the road. The 2-hour
Bus Tour was also great!

We look forward to a return trip to this motel and Amish
Country in the future!!

Very clean. Very simple...you are, after all in Amish country! Great place for families. staff were more than friendly. They made you feel welcome and like friends come for a visit. Bathrooms were very very small, but managable and clean. We had a refridgerator and did not have to pay extra for it like someone else mentioned here. Within walking distance to country shopping.

  • Liked — Friendly, welcoming staff
  • Disliked — tiny bathrooms

We stayed at this country Motel during June to visit the lovely Amish area and also visit Strasburg Railroad's "Thomas the Tank Engine" Days. For a country motel this Smucker property offers many features for a family with children to enjoy on the immediate property as well as additional amenities at their main Bird-In Hand Family Inn Property.
Location-Location-Location-is perfect. This country charm is located on Rt.340-Old Philadelphia Pike- right in the middle of Amish Country with a delightful Amish farm across the road and another directly behind the motel, unique amish Carriages traveling along Old Philadelphia Pike directly in front of our lawn area with seasonal lawn chairs to relax and unwind. We loved the rooster's awaking in the morning and we sat in lounges chairs watching the farmer every evening do his chores with the animals as we enjoyed great conversations and stories with others guests whom visit there often,it was like coming home to family, the kids loved playing on the children's playground and the pool on the motel property. All the guests enjoyed relaxing to the slower, peaceful pace of life while exchanging great conversation.
In the morning we enjoyed great robust coffee from the office and sat and watched the farm animals while talking with other guests of plans for the day and getting additional suggestions from other guests.
The Smucker Fanily has several properties and when you stay at any of their 6 properties you may use all the amenities of the Main Bird-in-Hand Family Inn just 1 mile down the road :

which includes a Large petting zoo, Large delightful High Quality Playground and the children laughed and played and enjoyed great frienships with other children while parents exchanged stories.
There were 3 pools to enjoy (2 indoors & 1 outdoor) with 2 lifeguards on duty. The outdoor pool started with a walk in entrance which was only a few inches of water and declined to 6 feet in depth which was ideal for young children, toddlers and parents with babies could sit in the pool with out fear of the depth and my husband and I took turns in the hot jaccuzzi in the indoor area which includes ping-pong tables, and a additional gameroom, fitness room,Lake & Walking Trail,Tennis & basketball courts, there is a coin laudry for guests to use which is great for guests with many children since you can pack less clothes and throw a load of clothes in and they are spanking clean. There is a minature golf course which is Fabulous and the Famous Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant with the choice of regular menu or their all-u-can-eat Amish favorites Smorgasbord. The Noah's Ark children's Buffet is so special for Children has exactly what kids like and also healthy choices: my son's standards were all there of course, Mac & Cheese, Real Home-made Mash potatoes, hot dogs, cheese, veggies with homemade ranch dip, homemade applesauce, spaghetti, chicken nuggets pizza, ravioli, fishsticks, nachos, Dessert bar ,soft serve ice cream,etc....so many I can not recall but I remember thinking...why didn't restaurants have this when I was a kid, I would of LOVED THIS!!!! all for a low of 75 cents per year of age of child( 3 and under free)
COMPLIMENTARY TWO HOUR BUS TOUR (IS NOT TO BE MISSED):
Our tour guide guide was raised in a amish family and she lives next to her family but had chosen a more modern life style so she takes you to 4 private amish farms which we absolutely loved and purchased many home-made Amish foods& hand-made crafts such as a high quality hand-made broom, my mother order a custom made quilt which they will shipped to us when completed for a fabulous price. Then to a Hand dipped candle factory with lovely surroundings and petting zoo. The best part of the tour were the stories of the tourguide's childhood and the history and customs of the Amish people. DO NOT MISS THIS FREE COMPLIMENTARY TOUR!!!!!!! So much better than the tours I paid for in the past.
**IMPORTANT**Bird-In-Hand Family of Inns&Motels V.I.P. Club:
Special Rates and Packages and with the V.I.P. card they will stamp your card for every night you stay at any of their six facilities and when you reach 10 nights stay they give you a $50.00 certificate.
We decided on the V.I.P 2 night package:
2 nights accommodations
2 breakfast buffets per person(2 days)the Famous Bird-in-Hand Family (Smucker's)Restaurant&Smorgasbord
1 Dinner per person at the Famous Bird-in Hand Family(Smucker's) Restaurant & Smorgasbord
2-Hour Complimentary Bous Tour
Fresh baked item from the Bird-in Hand Bakery (we picked delicious sho-fly pie)
Special Offers coupons at several local shops for only V.I.P. package participants
$10.00 Gift Voucher for KITCHEN KETTLE VILLAGE (one per pkg)
So all we had to pay for was for dinner 1 evenings since the Smorgasbord was so large in the morning our tummy's actually had no room for lunch since we were stuffed from the fabulous morning Buffet.
All of this for a 2-day package Total of only: $270.00/Weekday(June 9th-Sept 3rd) Prime Season Rate
:$290.00/Weekend (June 9th-Sept 3rd)
There are lower rates for for off season times of year.
You can get the rate for more people in your party from the reservationists, they customized a rate for 3 adults & 1 child for our stay. What a deal!!!!!
I had no problem with the water pressure and the rooms were clean and the air was crisp and fresh in our room, not stale like some motels.
We loved the use of all the Ice we needed to pack coolers of Amish meats to take home from the Bird-in hand market safely. The slab bacon, world famous lancaster aged cheddar cheese, Groff Farm Lebanon bologna, dried beef.etc.

This was our first trip to Amish country Motel. We went the Memorial Day Weekend and after deliberating for over 3 weeks as to where to stay.. we settled on our first choice which was the Amish Country Motel. The Pros to this hotel were: Cost, Location, Staff & Cleanliness. Cons: Rather small rooms and no water pressure whatsoever from the shower. I literally was begging for even a drizzle to come out. It's worse for someone like me who has very long hair and has to condition your hair three times. The whole shower took over 25 mins each time I showered. The bathroom also is more apt sized. Very small. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. The first time I sat on the bed it was like a rubber band and made an awful squeaky sound even when you moved your big toe. There also was no refrigerator (although you can pay extra to have one - which we did. We recommend that. We brought a case of soda and some iced tea to save money from running to the vending machine) there was also no hairdryer. There were a few hairs in the shower that at first I got annoyed, then overlooked. Overall, for a roadside motel it is a gem. After having spent three nights there..the final night we just didn't want to leave. Yes, it is not luxury, but the value and location is tops. You will LOVE sitting outside on the lawn chairs ..just feet away from Rt 340 watching the Buggys and cars go by. You also will sit and stair across to some farm animals. There is a nice, small pool and beyond that a small petting zoo that is attached to a restaurant (in walking distance to motel) When we went to check out this morning - we made a NEW reservation to CHECK IN! We are heading back to the Amish Country Motel Labor Day weekend. If you weigh the pros and cons you get what you pay for and a bit more with this motel! Also, unlike some of the bigger chains, there is NO WI-FI/Highspeed Internet. I do business on the computer so this was awful. I did prepare however and we brought a 25ft phone cord to use for dial up. You will be screaming at the screen for the incredibly slow loading of pages (slower than snail mail) but it will do. Besides, you don't want to spend every second sitting in front of the computer while on vacation.. Choose Amish Country Motel and you will be pleased if you are looking for a roadside motel with a gorgeous view and the feeling of peacefulness! PS: The other guests that were there at the time of our visit were great! We made new friends young and old. We sat on the lawn late at night and listened to stories of people who had been visiting the Amish Country Motel for decades. That was a real treat. The guests are very quiet, respectful and just wonderful. We enjoyed that part of the Motel as well! Even the sound of a couple of young children running around playing was music to our ears. This property is top notch for young, old, families and children!
