Owner description: The Elk Country Visitor Center is a premier location for viewing elk and other wildlife in Pennsylvania. The center offers interactive exhibits and displays and encourages a 'hands on' experience. Our 4D story theater immerses guest in the history of Pennsylvania elk and the Pennsylvania Wilds. Our gift shop sell Made in the USA product, many of those by local artisans and product makers. The best time to view is early in the morning or in the hours before dark. Elk are wild animals and you can't be promised you will see them.

Be sure to spend the $3 and enjoy the movie. It is interactive, educational, and fun! You can learn about the animals in the area and see and touch elk horns and fur. Educational talks are given and you can walk the grounds. Elk viewing is best in the early am and dusk to see elk at the center.

We've been to the visitor centre numerous times over the last 5 years and haven't had much luck seeing Elk at the centre itself. However, this year we went in October instead of November and went at dusk as usual. This time of year seemed perfect as it was elk mating season. We must have seen 20 elk at the visitor centre alone. What a great sight and worth the visit. We also saw some others in the little village (you pass it along the road up to the centre) and also at a campsite along the highway from DuBois. If you've never been before I recommend sitting in on the movie as it is very informative. Note there is a reasonable fee for the movie only.

10-9-13 This is just a fantastic place to visit. With interactive displays, beautiful architecture, videos, movie, comfortable seating and display of animals this is a must to see in addition to the herd of 38 elk located just outside. This is just a great attraction from very young to very old; l from physically fit to those with physical challenges. This is located in the perfect location to see elk not olnly here but up Winslow Road as well. The Old Bull Cafe just down the road is also a nice place to catch a light lunch or supper and see elk.

Went at dusk as recommended, only saw two elk, but many people we talked to go regularly, has binoculars and cameras and have seen many elk. Very pretty area, quiet and peaceful even with alot of people. Everyone was so respectful of this beautiful area.

If you have a chance visit this beautiful center. The Building opened in September 2010, a true public and private success story. It is an 8,400-square foot building & an eco-friendly structure. Restrooms and a gift shop are inside-- there are paths out the doors to take you to viewing areas..the is NO CHARGE TO PARK or to VISIT THIS CENTER..
