Oh dear oh dear. Having decided on Sunday to take a visit to the 'LA' for lunch, primarily to see what life was like after the previous team vacated (after 13 years?) I have to say we won't be going back.

For the entire time we were in this place the chef was going ballistic at the young serving staff. It was getting quite embarrassing. Having seen them at front of house, and how polite and friendly they we're, we could only presume that his operation in the kitchen had failed that afternoon and he was annoyed.

But there was no need to be shouting at the waitresses like he was, within earshot of the diners throughout the pub (barring the beer garden) and taking out your frustrations like that is just bullying. A table of old dears near us were saying kind things like "He's just having a bad day love" but that says it all frankly.

As for the food: decidedly average and not at previous 'LA' standards.

Avoid.

Second visit since the new owners had taken over 3 weeks ago and everything was even better. The Sunday roast was excellent, the service was slick and professional at the same time extremely welcoming and friendly. Look forward to getting back again soon!

We hadn't been for a while, we won't be going again.
Our favourite has new owners and it isn't good.
We checked via the website what the opening times were and noticed the lovely menu which looked as good as it used to be. Unfortunately we learnt that the new owners have not had time to change this and in its place is a very limited selection of regular pub food and Sunday roasts.
We struggled to find a main course so two ordered ham egg and chips, the other two had roast beef. A few minutes passed and the lady serving came back and said they had no eggs as they had been used in the Yorkshire pudding. We decided to call it a day and leave, we should have noted the lack of clientele as it was barely occupied but in the past was always buzzing. No eggs and from a limited menu two meals required eggs of some sort......bizarre.
As we were finishing our drinks the lady came back to say a regular had just nipped back to get some eggs as they had some for sale, we needed to eat so we decided to stay.
The meals were delivered, nicely presented ham egg and home cooked chips but for £8.95 it was barely a handful of chips. The roasts arrived, they looked okay - nothing special and all piled on a plate whereas before the veg would have been separate. The meal was a mixture of warmish veg and meat and only the roast potatoes were piping hot. It didn't inspire and as I have said before if you can't do a Sunday roast then it's a poor show. I would be surprised if the meat was home cooked as it was perfectly thinly sliced as if 'ready' made, along with this the gravy was only on the meat which suggested it had been cooked as one.
A lady who appeared to be the new land lady cleared our plates and we mentioned the website and limited menu to be told theirs would be available soon but the previous owners were more 'a la carte'. This isn't strictly correct, it was just a much bigger choice of things like lamb shank, steak and ale pie etc which were cooked extremely well, always piping hot and fresh. Served in a very presentable manner ...but sometimes by staff that could have been more friendly. They were always busy though so perhaps they were under pressure.
There was limited desserts to choose from but to be honest we just wanted to leave so paid and left, wondering where the previous owners had gone to and where on earth we could go to get a hearty, home cooked meal akin to before.

Since moving to the area, I have visited the Langton Arms several times and wether it be going in for a quick drink, a light lunch or a full evening meal it has never disappointed. The menu offers a good variety of very reasonably priced dining options and they have done their best to suit special dietary requirements of guests too.

Making the most of its setting in the Leicestershire countryside, they offer bar, lounge and dining room eating areas as well covered and uncovered outdoor seating in their picturesque beer garden.

My only complaint is that they have fallen into the trendy folly of serving food on boards and slates instead of plates. Apart from that everything about this pub and restaurant is great!

My family and I were made to feel welcome by friendly staff and I would definately go back. The Sunday roast was very good and well priced, drinks wise the the real ale was well looked after and a good pint. The only draw back was that they didn't have freshly ground coffee but this is only a very minor point in a otherwise excellent visit.
