My wife bid at the silent auction for Special Olympics and we won a free night and took advantage for Valentines and Presidents weekend. The Hotel is very relaxing, the staff are wonderful. We arrived in early evening before 6PM, hungry and forced to sit in very uncomfortable spot in the tavern, food was mediocre at best and chicken wings were not cooked, had to return, etc. Managing this, we are hardy travelers and off we went to bed. The flowers that were ordered and provided by conceirge were the highlight of stay and enjoyed at home as well, the champagne not in the room as ordered was a disappointment as it was for both my wife's birthday and valentines day. I arrived later and we uncorked the bottle the next day. Attempted to have lunch in tavern only to once again find limited seating---so into town and to Jean Bennet Tavern and that was wonderful, after years of traveling turnpike and seeing it, and now enjoying it. Would recommmend that restaurant to all. There was great disappointment to find the spa all booked, my wife had spoke of it days before and there was no advanced warning that we needed to have reservation. They lost our reservation for the Crystal Room and quickly corrected that. My disappointment, expecting elegant dining, and having put on a tie, could have shown up in jeans, not what I expected for a special valentine dinner. Have enjoyed dinner in some fine restaurants, coat and tie, required. Personally offended, especially for a hotel of this reputation. Five restaurants, so there were other options for the less formal. I do want to say that the staff were wonderful, the hotel is relaxing and wonderfully appointed. To be forwarned is to be for armed and our stay could have been more delightful if we had been informed in advance. Guests should not be informed after they arrive that they need reservations, when the idea is that you are staying at a spa resort.
